Today I got the ATF forms required to become a Cruffler. I have to submit a copy to my CLEO in the Louisville area. I called the SO, Louisville Metro, and St. Matthews PD. They all transferred me to each other and nobody knows what the heck I am talking about. The SO said, "well Louisville has a Chief and we have a Sheriff" (duh) and then Metro said talk to the Sheriff and St. Matthews had me call Metro again. Its kinda irritating. So does anyone know how to find my CLEO?

Boneheads. (Them, not you).

If you're a coke dealer and the cops made a huge, successful raid at your house, whose picture would be in the newspaper showing all of the confiscated evidence?

I was under the impression it is whatever LE agency that has primary jurisdiction. For my area, it's the local PD. If I move outside city limits, it's the county Sheriff.

Since you said Louisville, i'll assume Jeff. county.
http://www.jcsoky.org/ mailing address is at the top right by the sheriff's picture.

Does it really matter? If the latter, it would be St. Matthews

I used the Sheriff.

I do have one more question if someone might be kind enough to answer. Right where I sign it asks for my "title." I am assuming that is asking for something like: Dr., Rev., Mr., etc correct?

Im inclined to leave it blank.

If in the city limits you will fall under the city's police department. Outside the limits you fall under the county sherriff's department. I fall under the later in my area.

TO throw a further wrench in the works, when my mother was prosecutor for Ogemaw County here in Northern Michigan, her TITLE was "Chief Law Enforcement Officer" along with "County Prosecutor"...

So, here in the sticks of Michigan, would it be the county Prosecutor?

Here's some assistance: Use your Sheriff. These are the guys who do the courtroom security, etc. and are elected by the county. Besides, all you have to do is send it to them with a note saying that you are applying for your C&R and are complying with ATF regulation Blah blah. That's all you have to do, you don't have to follow up or anything like that. It's up to them to tell the ATF not to give you something. More often than not, it'll end up in the circular file as they have no idea what to do.

You could put owner. I asked the ATF the same question for title. And it would be your city chief of police. Hope this helps. John

For title, I put collector.
For CLEO, who comes when you call 911? If it's a PD, put their Chief. It it's a Sheriff's Deputy, put the Sheriff. Unless you're like me and live in a city with Sheriff patrol contract and a Lt as Chief of Police Services.

I put "Owner/collector" in the "title" box. As for the Sheriff, I just sent him the forms. Either he knows what they're for, or he doesn't. If he doesn't my phone number is on them. He can call me.
