Look around for an old mossberg. You can pick em up around $60-$90. I have 3 of them and they are all very reliable and very accurate.

cz all the way. Wal-mart can special order you one for a good price, just go to there web site or look in there book in sporting goods next time you are there. The are beautiful guns, great accuracy, sweet trigger, just to say the least. I know you will be happy with a cz!

this thread is still going?????????? ;)
It actually flat-lined in May, '04, before my time on THR.

I revived it ("CLEAR!") a few weeks ago when I caught a virus bug called .22 LR. :D

It seemed reasonable to revive this thread rather than just start a new one since there was already such good info here.

I've actually revived several threads in my short time on THR. It's fun to see how people's thoughts have changed or remained the same about a topic, and to see what new folks bring to it.

Hypothesis: old threads never die, they just f a d e a w a y ....

Oh, yeah: current choice to be purchased, even though when I revived this, I was definitely thinking semi-auto: CZ452 Style with a scope, maybe 3X-9X (?).

Any recommendations for a scope welcomed either here or via PM.

I have a Bushnell Trophy series 4-12X40 AO on mine and I love it. I shoot 1/2" groups @ 50yds with my CZ-452 Trainer/Special

Cueball, thanks for that recommendation.

This is that scope. Looks good. Finally learned that "AO" means 'adjustable objective. Makes sense.

I like the fact that it's wide angle. Should make finding targets at closer ranges easier.

Any idea how these stack up against Swift models? That's what the guy at my local gunnie store is recommending to me.

That's a Banner, not a Trophy. I have that particular Banner on 2 different rimfires and 1 airgun - very good scope for the money, IMO.

Anyone actually own a CZ511 semi-auto?

Bushnell Banner v. Trophy

Ahhhh, yes. Now I see. That explains the price difference. Thanks, Boom for pointing out my error.

Here is the trophy. $170-ish v. $90-ish for the Banner.

Both look reasonable for a .22.
