I am going to buy another semi auto pistol. (I have a Bersa .380) I am leaning towards the SIG 226 as per recommendations from this forum. I like a gun with a decocker, safety, double then single action, 10-15 round magazine, and grips small enough for smaller hands. So far, I have leaned heavily towards the 9mm. I don't know whether to prefer stainless or not.

I have only $600 to spend.

The pistol will be for plinking, target shooting, home protection, and fun, not concealed carry. I want, above all, reliability, reliability, reliability.

Any suggestions?

I carry (concealed or open depending) a Sig P229 in 40 S&W and love it, my wife is drooling over one in 9mm to replace her XD.

Sigs typically are de-cock only, without a manual safety, the grip panels are replaceable and I particularly like the hogue grips.

The CPO program is very nice, it will leave you enough money for some accessories or ammo to practice with.

Check out the CZ line of pistols. Accurate, reliable, very well made. I carry a CZ 75D Compact PCR 9mm every day. It fits (along with the PO-1) all the specs that you have out lined, and can be had for around 450-500 new. A P226 new will cost a good deal more than your 600 limit. I recomend the CZ's being also an owner of a Sig P226 9mm. I myself shoot the CZ much better, your mileage may vary. A CZ is every bit the pistol a P226 is in MY opinion..
Be safe.

Go with a Baby Eagle and spend the rest on ammo, about $200 worth. Or, a Steyr from CDNN, a $590 (retail) gun for $349 or so.

Cz P-01

Meets all your requirements plus you'll have a $100 left over for a holster and ammo.

Decocker--czech

DA/SA trigger mechanism--czech

14+1 Capacity--czech

Small/Ergonomic grip circumference--czech

CZ Reliability--double czech!!

Can't go wrong with a CZ!!

And if you want a classic, go with a Hi Power. The FN Mark III is a great gun. For more you can go with a Browning.

Sigs the way to go. CPO's are a great deal. Keep in mind though, the Sigs in DA/SA don't have a traditional 'safety' per se.

If you'd like a quote, drop me a PM. I'm a Sig dealer.
Good luck with the choice!

I second the CZ P-01. Excellent gun, incredibly accurate, sexy to look at, and inexpensive.

Consider the FN FNP9. You can get a new one with 3 16 rd mags for well under $600.
I got one with factory night sights for $500.

For reliability I'd go with Glocks. But they CZ are imo the second best choice after Glock.

CZ are well made full steel pistol. Much more durable the a
P226 (aluminium frame and not full metal slide)

The sig or the CZ will both serve you well. The XD does not meet your specs and the Baby Eagle is not a good choice in my opinion.

I might get shot for this recommendation.
Walther or Sig 22lr pistol.

I'm never asking you lot for advice - I'd be broke and divorced if I had to follow up on all those great suggestions ;)

Sigs are awsome if the budget allows. I have recently discovered CZ's are just as good as a Sig without the price.

Look at the HK P7 PSP in grade "B" for less than $600. Fast, accurate, slim, short and a joy to shoot. Probably the safest gun to carry with one in the pipe.

Dont let anyone distract you. Get a sig, you wont be sorry. You will probably end up getting a Sig anyway sooner or later. They are all good suggestions, but get the sure deal.
