help me with this thing

so ive got this smith & wesson pocket knife. as you can see its a daily carry/use knife. the finish has worn off and looks bad. i was thinking of stripping it and either: A polishing it or B blueing it, if it would take. what ideas do you all have for a tough, good looking finish.

I'd probably beadblast it and leave it or go all out and sandblast and use Gunkote. There's also high-temp engine paint I've used on mags and that may work.

Bluing won't work, as I'd wager it is stainless.

Unless you have a bead blaster at hand, you would probably be best served by buying a better knife. That is, if appearances matter to you.

The blade is a stainless and the body is probably an aluminum alloy. Get a can of duracoat, or equvalent, and hose it down and bake it on.

The ACE Hardware downtown has everything you need. I would sand it down and duracoat it.

Either that or go to the Woodlands or Bryan/College Station and buy a new knife.

S&W 24-7's seem to retail online for only about $32.

Maybe buying a new one would be easier. And if there's any cachet at all to having one that's from the "First production run" as yours is marked, you'll lose it if you refinish it.

Honest use, wear and tear. As is. Un touched condition. First production run. Might be valued at $40 someday down the road. Maybe $45.

Clean it, sharpen it, oil it and park it in your safe/foot locker in it's original box (too much Antique Roadshow for Baba), wherever, go buy a new Benchmade or Emerson (whatever... keeping the box ) and carry on.

Or just keep using it as is.

Why would you want to duracoat all those memories away? My suggestion is to sharpen her up, lay some militec-1 on, and keep cutting.

On the other hand, it's only knife... Maybe I'm being a bit dramatic...

so much for saving it as is or putting it away. ive already started stripping the paint off. it is coming off easily for the most part but some areas are tough. i will post pics when i figure out what i am going to do with it and its finished. kinda looks cool just bare stainless though!!!

stop me if I'm hijacking' but I don't trust S&W knives, had to many fall apart on me to put any faith into them, might want to run over that with some locktite while youve got it dissmantled for kote-ing.

personaly, I would retire that one and get a CRKT or kershaw

Hey Rebel just bring it with you to the next shoot and I will blast it in my cabinet and finish the out side in OD green from Brownells and leave the blade in a matte finish.
I know guns look cool finish in OD green so should a knife.
