I've been looking at a new S&W model 410 vs a gently used 8040 Beretta. Can anyone offer some suggestions between the two or experience with either one.
Both have box and papers, both are $475.
This will be my first venture into the world of .40 I've been in the 9mm and .45 acp world for a longtime.

Thanks.

I had a 410. I liked it. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. $475 seems high, but I haven't priced them lately. Put it this way - I don't think I'd pay $475 for a 410, and I like S&W autoloaders very much.

I like the looks of the Smith better if that's important to you. They're both solid, reliable pistols. I believe the Smith is a few ozs lighter and the newer ones come in stainless steel I believe. Yeah, $475 seems a bit high for the Smith. Best, John

I owned a SW411 and I currently own a 8040. I think the Beretta
is the better pistol. The difference in quality is evident and the
Beretta has been absolutely reliable. Just my experience.

Thank you commygun.
I am leaning to the 8040 also. Ive got a 92sb that makes me want to trust the 8040. The grip has a 1911 feel to me. Thanks again.

I too would like to suggest the Berretta. Reliable, accurate, ergonomically perfect, at least in my hand. I have experience with the 8040 and the 8045. If there was a way to shoot them before purchase you'd walk away with the 8040 hands down. Great handgun.

I don't like the way the grip feels on the S&W semi autos. For that reason, I'd go w/ th 8040...besides that rotating barrel seems knda cool ;)

One more vote for the Beretta. It's a great pistol, even better if you can get the Mini-Cougar.

No experience with the Smith, but quite a bit with the 8040.
