I have a M44 that someone cut off the bayonet mount. I got a different Bayonet mount/front sight mount to replace it. I see that the mount is held on by Two pins. Well I tried to knock them out with no luck, i did manage to bugger up some the metal around the pin though. The punch i was using would not stay centerted. I am assuming i am using the wrong punch.

Cound anyone tell what punch i need to use on it? Or what i doing wrong?

Really don't want to take it to a gunsmith for this.

Thanks

Get some kroil and (wearing gloves in a well vented area) drip some down the pin holes. Let sit for a bit, then return with a punch slightly smaller in diameter than the pin. Using a brass punch is ideal, since it will not harm the steel. If you don't have a gunsmith punch set, get one. Midway sells them.

I picked up a new punch today, with one i will hope will work. The polish M44 i got has somebody cut off the lug. Dosn't look to bad, but i want the gun to be back to orginal config.

I haven't removed the lug from a genuine com-bloc rifle but I have removed them from Chinese Type 53 rifles.
I don't know if they did it the same way but the Chinese rifles also have the lugs silver soldered, or actually they appeared to be copper brazed. to the barrels.
It took an Oxy-acetylene torch to remove them.
