Help.. What is "The ULTIMATE CCW handgun" (semi-auto)?

For me, a Kahr P40 Covert or PM40. That's why I have them.
No compromise. I've seen nothing I would trade for, regardless
of price.

I believe firmly, that if you carry a pistol, it should be the "ultimate"
pistol for YOU, no matter what the cost. This is the most important
mission than any gun you own will have.

For me, it's the Rohrbaugh R9s. Ultimate in that it's the smallest 9mm you can buy, and also in it's workmanship and quality.

In a 9, it's hard to beat the P7M8.

In a bigger gun, I'd still say the 1911 works well.

But I just picked up a P30, and its tempting. It really shoots well, and it's not too large.

I love the Kahr MK9, it is a little heavier then the pm9 but it is just as easy to conceal and I perfer stainless guns.

I really think that you have the answer right there with the EMP, I want one too but they are really hard to come by here in the midwest. The answer to your Q has to be one you are comfortable with and will carry everyday. Doesnt do ya anygood if its just sittin in the safe. I have a Sig 232 and yeah for $750 it was pricey but I shoot it better than any of my others save my Ruger MKII.

The best CCW weapon is the one you can hit your target with, all the time.
That being said, and if size is the man consideration ruling out the 1911 commander in 45, then put me down for the Glock 27 with the trijicon three dot sights

I sure like my Pre 80's Colt Combat Commander .45 Cal. that I carry. I have alot of confidence in this pistol in my hands.....but..... my son has a Sig P220 Compact .45 Cal. and I must admit after 1,000 rounds fired not 1 FTF/jam. Really, a well put together pistol with tight tollerances and good craftsmanship.

The "ultimate" CCW depends on your circumstances. For instance, if you are the type who wears a jacket you don't have to worry as much about "concealability." If you aren't someone who wears a jacket, then a double stack, compensated, ported/polished/engraved longslide BBQ gun isn't that easily concealed. You most likely need something a bit shorter, smaller and more discreet for CCW carry.

What "type" also depends on your individual circumstance. For instance, if you need a CCW weapon because your life has been threatened by a violent person who is actively stalking you, you need something that is quick to get into action. That means SA of the 1911 variant type of known reliability or a Glock/HK/M&P. (As much as I hate to even consider one, plastic fits in this type of situation because it's cheap and a throwaway after the police impound it.)

If, OTOH, you carry a firearm for "general or non specific self defense" you may not need a 1911 SA pistol. You could get away with a DA or DA/SA or even a DAO revolver.

Professionals may need a different weapon than non-professionals, etc. It just depends on your individual needs and situation.

Anyone carry a hk 45 compact? I'm looking at picking one up. I currently carry a XD .45 service with external safety. I'm trying to find a gun that chops about hlaf an inch off the grip... not looking at glocks... hand could never conform to the grip angle as much as I tried.

Just this afternoon, I picked up a brand new Sig P232 stainless with night sights for $600 (date sticker on the case is May 20, 2009).

I am a small framed guy, and it is hard to comfortably carry anything very large. My smallest gun before today was a CZ P-01, which is considerably thicker and blockier then the P232. I looked at a CZ RAMI decocker model, but again, that double stack 9mm frame adds bulk. Plus I sweat a lot, so wanted something either all stainless, or polymer and stainless.

.380 acp is fine with me, as I think it is quite adequate for a personal defense round. It's been around since 1904, so nearly as long as the .45acp and the 9mm, so if it truly was useless or pointless, we'd know it definitively by now. Sure, larger calibre would be better (so would an FN FAL for that matter), but if I cannot carry the thing comfortably and conceal it, then it doesn't matter.

I have an FNP-45 and a Ruger 4" GP100 for home defense guns, but I could just as likely conceal those on my frame as I could the aforementioned FN FAL.

The best CCW is what feels good to you ! I've been looking at the CZ 2075 RAMI and the Taurus Millenum Pro PT111 both in 9mm. Also there are the Glock 26, Sig Sauer SP2022, Baretta Px4 and another Taurus PT 709.

When you say (ultimate) i think .45acp,but thats just me.Im the type who thinks 9mm/.40's are compromise rounds.
They arent, and are more than adaquate as is a .380 imo.

My ccw class is in 1 month and i couldnt be any more antsy if i was 9 and it was christmas eve.
I found what i felt was the (ultimate) ccw weapon was too me,its the PT745 or PT145,and when clothing allows ill carry my 1911.Im really stuck on manual safteys and thats one reason for choosing the 2 weapons i did.
