I would like to build a 'true' .22LR AR upper (and lower of course) for a hobby project. 'True' in that it is built from real AR parts (such that I could re-use the lower with another standard AR upper, and even re-purpose parts of the upper if possible in the future for other projects). That is, I do not want to buy a $500 AR .22LR-only carbine. However I am left-handed and, like my 3GL, I would like to use a Stag LH-design to create a real (or near) mirror image design of a RH deign. Finally, I live in CA and have to live with the standard restrictions (30", 16", BB, no flash hider) that is the law here.
For the upper, I'd like to start with the Stag LH receiver, then choose a 1:16 barrel (either 16" or 18" - not sure the weight matters). I think that the basis of my confusion stems from two things:
I understand that the feed ramps for a 'true' .22LR barrel are offset much differently than that of a .223/5.56 due to the cartridge length. So choosing a bolt/bcg and barrel combination has me stymied and I really need help here. This is a problem whether it is a RH or LH build;
And I understand that there are modifications that are required on the barrel side for proper LH extraction. Again, I'm still lost on this one.
So, if I could get help from the experts:
1. Could you clarify the issues (if they are in fact issues) I cited above?
2. Would you be willing to direct me to specific vendors/models that I should consider? (e.g. barrel/bolt/bcg/mag insert/mag spec);
3. Obviously I'm open to any and all suggestion and guidance as well.
I'd rather not deal with question regarding why left-handed people want left-handed guns. Some (like I) just do and am willing to deal with a bit more expense and complexity to use what works best for me.
BTW, I'm presuming that the lower is easy - except perhaps for whatever insert might be necessary for the mag block.
Finally, the typical use cases will be range and plinking. Nothing more dramatic. That said, I'd like a reasonably accurate and reliable machine, with quality parts.

P.S. Apologies if this is a repeat of a thread/threads that have been posted previously but I am having trouble finding and condensing the necessary info into something actionable.
