Looking to get my first centerfire rifle here in the near future. I am looking at the CZ 527, as I am left handed, and they make a lefty bolt action in .223 and .204.

As this is pretty new to me, I would certainly be interested in hearing your thoughts on the performance of these two rounds. Also, how does cost compare. I know that .223 has some cheaper alternatives, but are they quality ammo that don't damage the firearm?

If Beretta were to import them, I would also be interested in the Tikka T3 hunter or hunter stainless, but they dont, so that isnt an option.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I would go with 223. I have seen at gun shows 1000 rounds brass cased for $350. Classic Arms has M193 556 ammo for $349 for 1000.

I shoot lefty and have a right handed bolt rifle. Seems natural to operate the bolt with my right hand. I am right handed though.

I'm a leftist too and bought a Savage 16 in left-handed stainless steel. I bought the .223 because I already have a ranch rifle and already have .223 reloading dies.

Have to agree, that one of the advantages of .223 is the cheap price of surplus ammo.

I'd go .223. Cheaper to shoot and easier to find ammo.

I would primarily use it for plinking and target shooting. I would also like to be able to take it Prairie Dog hunting.
