Hello all... I picked up a rifle today, and I'm not a mil-surp rifle guy. I'm hoping some of you gurus czn help me figure out what I have.
It's a lightly sporterized Gew98, the only thing that's been altered that I can tell is the stock. All of the numbers I can see (receiver, barrel, floorplate, bolt handle), match. The serial # is W24##, and all of the serialed parts also have what apprears to be a small dagger or leaf.
And that's where the markings almost stop. The left side of the receiver is marked "cal 7.92" with a "P" and an "R" in small squares following (proof marks?) On the top of the receiver is nothing but a large crest with which I'm not familiar. It's a simple looking crossed sword and axe, no wording or embellishments. I'll try to get some pictures up as the day goes on.
So thats what I have... any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
