help with savage bolt

I pulled on my savage bolt the other day while cleaning the weapon and the firing pin mechanism went to the fired position. I cannot put the bolt back into the rifle and am having trouble putting the bolt assembly back into firing position. This is a savage 308 110. Great rifle, stupid question I know...but thats why I like the high road. Any help welcome. Have you done this and figured it out. This is how I felt when I couldnt get the gas tube back in the SKS

ps - that little button top pin in the first pic is what moved, and needs to move back. I suppose I'll have to dissassemble the whole thing, but even that is proving a challenge at the moment with bolt in said position.

I've never done it on a Savage, but generally when this happens with a bolt you just need to recock it by pushing back on the cocking piece to compress the striker spring and twist the bolt shroud clockwise against the bolt body.

I usually compress the spring by resting the cocking piece against the edge of a solid bench and pushing down on the bolt handle.

It's a lot easier with things like Mosins and Sprinfield that have a handle on the cocking piece.

A little dab of grease on the cocking cam makes it easie to re-cock it.

I took care of it and shot some handloads today, 168 gr BTHP's with 42-45 grains of 748. Basically I put my pocket knife (CLOSED!) on the bolt pin and pushed really hard, slightly canting to the left, and it recocked the bolt which of course slid right in at that point. So, problem solved, if anybody needs help with this drop me a note.
