Which 357 carbine?

Here's my Ruger single shot, factory chambered in 22 hornet, 223 rem, 30/40 krag or 45/70. Proper American gun much better than the break barrel.

Nothing to do with eyesight, recoil consistently caused the rossi step elevator to "bump" to its lowest setting, that doesn't happen with the marbles one, the front sight is invisible in certain lighting conditions. The gun is excellent apart from the sights which are crap, my win 94 30/30 NEVER did this, neither does the marbles one now.
Wow that's odd. I've had two .357 16 inch, one 44 mag 24 inch and a 45 colt 24 inch and none had crap sights. Maybe the new ones are different

One of the things about the Rossi 92s that most people don't realize when they talk about "mine won't do x but my buddy's will" is that there are several generations, each manufactured by completely different companies.

I've been very lucky with my 3 Rossi 92s (.357, .44 and .454 Casull). Each one of mine is a different generation and has significant differences, but they are all very reliable when it comes to feeding different bullet styles. I have never tried to shoot full wadcutters through my .357 carbine, but I'm pretty confident it would handle them in .357 mag brass just fine, and probably also .38 special brass.
Thank you. That’s an interesting point. I decided not to give an opinion on the one and only Rossi that I had owned. It was a .45 Colt with the 24” octagon barrel.
Not sure who made it, but it was a piece of garbage and half my issues, I’m sure, was the knucklehead that sold it to me claimed he bought it, used it in one CAS match then tossed it in his safe to rest for 10 or more years. I bought it in 2016. It was “slicked up” and he apparently forgot. (yeah, Right!)
I have owned Chinese SKS’s with better looking interiors and parts.

Anyway, for a while I branded all Rossi’s as bad from my experience with the one that I owned.
I have since learned that I was wrong in that thinking.

Happily, the 92 lends itself to an assortment of replacement sights; Marbles is a good source.
The original buckhorns are close to worthless for a guy my age, and the sight radius on a 16" is really short.
So change out the sights; there's a variety of choices. There are apertures that can replace the mickey mouse safety on the Rossi's bolt, or you can drill either the receiver, or the tang for a better one.

BTW, my 'deer rifle' has been a Marlin 94 in .44Mag; it's always been a hammer at woods ranges. The deer were inevitably dead right there. Two hundred forty grains at 1600'sec will do that.
So, rest easy about straight wall hunting guns.

I thought the OP question was about single shot??? I see all the Lever action answers and wonder. Anyway for what its worth, single shot If CVA made a 357 I would vote for it, as it is my CVA 45-70 Scout V2 in stainless is beautiful and a tack driver. Henry seems over priced and Rossi maybe.
I was asking in the OP about which 38 special/357 mag carbine would be more fun, a single shot like the Henry, or a levergun like the Rossi, since they are close to the same $$. I wish the cva scout came in 357, I would have one if that was the case...
