Henry Single Shot Rifle and Shotgun recall notice

I have three H015 single shot rifles and have contacted Henry about returning them for the recall. I got a reply today that they will be sending shipping boxes. My 38/357 rifle has been modified; it's chamber has been reamed out to 357 Maximum. Does anyone know if that's going to be an issue if I return it to Henry?

@cdb1, tough getting good lighting, but you can see the contrast here.

My H015-44 rifle's receiver is "plummed" just like that. It's also a very low serial number; less than 50. Another interesting note; the checkering on the fore-end wraps completely around the bottom. It is not like that on my 45-70 and 38/357 models.

Other than the 1860 clone, these Henry's are the first product of theirs that really interests me. The H&R Handi-Rifles were good, but like many other things, Remington screwed them-up to the point of no return. I had a Henry .22 lever gun I got in 1999 or so, but it didn't do anything for me with plastic components and poor loading tube retention. I hope Henry starts doing some "interesting" historical type calibers too.

August 1, contacted Henry via their website.
August 18, received email from Henry that my "H015 Upgrade Request" is approved and that shipping carton(s) are on the way.
August 21, received the shipping cartons and labels, boxed up both rifles.
August 24, shipped back to Henry via UPS.
August 27, delivered to Henry.
September 1, received shipping notification that my Single Shots are on their way back to me.
September 4, rifles received.

All I can say is "Wow!" I just got them back so haven't shot them with ammo yet, but dry firing, the gritty creep is completely gone and they feel a couple pounds lighter. I'll have to dig out my trigger pull gauge and check them out. They are still heavy compared to a Timney or a tuned Remington, but significantly lighter than they were. So I say, if you have a Single Shot and are on the fence, send it back. I think you'll like the results!

ETA: I did pull out the trigger gauge. The .357 breaks consistently at 6#, the .44 just over 4#. I'd prefer they were both in the 4-4.5# range, but I am still very happy compared to what they were.

Thank you for posting this. Just before reading your post I was thinking “Great! I wonder how fast the turnaround is. I don’t want my rifle getting stuck at the plant.”

This makes me feel a little better about sending mine.

Well, that's exciting. Looking forward to getting my two back. My timeline has been pretty consistent with what everybody else has said. Received a UPS e-mail this week saying they're on their way back. I sent mine back in the original boxes, not remembering if I had requested shipping boxes or not (Received two shipping boxes a couple days after I sent them in the originals. Whoops.) so I'm interested to see how they're boxed up but more importantly how they shoot.

Shipped mine to Henry at 3:04 P.M. Tue. Sep. 1st. Henry received it at 9:44 A.M. on Fri. Sep. 4th.. I love that UPS tracking stuff Hope my timeline is also consistent with what I see here. Looking forward to some trigger improvement.

Did they say/do anything about the plum coloration of the receiver?

They did not. I decided not to make an issue of it, as I kind of like the look ... and it helps me tell them apart. ;)

Took the .44 to the range for a function test Saturday. It works perfectly just like it did before I sent it in. Trigger is better although mine wasn't that bad before. Measured it on my Cheap RCBS trigger pull gauge at about 3.75 lbs.
Never measured it before the recall.

Mine is due back tomorrow. Going to finally dial it in with the Herter's 158 grain JSP ....looking forward to the lighter trigger pull. Should help this Deer season.

Got mine back yesterday ( 15th), a day earlier than the UPS tracking E-mail had it scheduled for. Trigger isn't what I had hoped for but it's much better than it was. It's now down to 4 lbs, 5 oz. on a Lyman digital gauge. It was 5 lbs. 14 oz. before. Still a nice improvement and the hammer is easier to cock also. That took a crazy amount of force to cock before the recall and I'm very happy with it now. Took it to the range this morning and it does seem to be a more pleasant experience although I didn't have the scope back on yet so at 100 yds. with irons and senior citizen eyes it was good enough to keep me happy until the scope and its mounting rail are back on. Had to remove them to send it in.

I shipped two of my three rifles on Sept 14. The third one was shipped on Sept 22. I got all three back, together in one box, today, Oct 8. The trigger improvements are very noticeable, but I don't have a gauge. The gunsmith who modified my 357 sent an email that Henry had agreed to honor the recall on the rifles modified by him! Kudos to Henry!

I bought one of these used last year and did the spring modification. I cannot for the life of me find the original spring to swap it back to factory before sending it off. Do any of you know of they will accept it or do you know where i can get a factory to switch back before my box gets here? I submitted the request today.

TIA
