hi im new here , im in the market for a woods pistol ,something as a back up to hunting rifle ,or if i want to go on a hike i can take it in a holster . and heaven forbid if i get a deer and don't kill it on the first shot i can pop it in the head with the 22, and if i want to can plink cans and not break the bank, and get the occasional tree rat . I found heritage on the internet , ,i like the model RR22MB4 which is blued with a 4 3/4 inch barrel with Cocobolo grips and fixed sights for 169$ . would would go with a single six convertible but i just dumped too much money into my number 4 mk 1 *( long branch 1943 )lee enfield for a new scope and no tap scope mount  ,need less to say i didn't skimp on the scope, and the economy is giving me the shaft(layed off ) so now im on a budget .are these revolvers any good?

Based on shooting one RR, I'd rate them as ok. The revolver was easy to shoot accurately and felt pretty good. It's owner has been shooting it for well over a year without any problems. I prefer my single six. It is much better made, feels and looks more solid than the RR. Based on your described use, the RR would do just fine.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the economy.

I have a RR and have fired over 2k rds of .22lr through it, along with 150 or so 22 mags.

She isn't the prettiest thing in my collection, but she has went bang every time without issues and is plenty accurate for my applications.

I've shot tens of thousands of rounds through mine. It's also fun for shooting CBs/shorts. I usually keep mine full of shotshells for snakes around the property.

The ejector shroud will loosen up if you don't loc-tite the threads on the screw. Other than that, it's a good value.

I prefer a Ruger Bearcat for the even smaller package, but for the money, it's a good deal.

I bought the 6.5" with the .22lr and .22mag cylinders a couple of years ago. After a little over a year and 1-2k rounds, the timing started to get off and some of the rounds were getting shaved. The piece that advances the cylinder was deformed to the point that it would not reliably rotate the next cylinder to be fired all they way into alignment with the barrel. I called Heritage about repair, but the revolver was just out of warranty so it was going to cost around half the revolver's purchase price to get it fixed. The revolver has sat in the top of my closet since then, its too bad though, it was very fun to shoot and fairly accurate. I love single actions in .22, and after graduation I plan on getting a single six, but I don't see my self buying another Rough Rider. Nothing wrong with the Rough Rider, but I think I would rather pay more and get the (hopefully) increased durability of the Ruger.

In your situation, the Rough Rider might be a good buy, as long as your are looking for a knock-around pistol, and not something to pass on to your grand kids.

Your mileage may vary.

i called my ffl its gonna cost 205 with tax ,im gonna get in 2 weeks . Ive got to find a holster now , right now all i have is a gun rack(all i have at home is rifles ) so i have to pick up a safe .i have a little brother (14) who has no respect for fire arms, what is a a good 22mag round i have no experience with 22mag ,i have some 22 shorts ,and ill pick up a value pack of federal .

A few years back, I bought a used Colt Woodsman (made in 1938) for $225 and made my own holster. The savings there probably make up for the $15 difference in price.

If I were you, I'd try to find something in a used gun at around that price.
