I was thinking of buying a STG-58 FAL, the rifle is in excellent condition, and a good buy, but it is built on a Hesse receiver, I heard Hesse receivers are junk:  : and should be avoided. :uhoh:

If possible, have a qualified gunsmith examine the weapon for any out of spec parts. Also test fire the weapon before buying it. Fire at least 100 rounds thru it.

Some Hesse receivers are fine, others are not. No easy way to tell just by looking. Headspace can be checked easily enough, but other problems are more easily diagnosed with a firing test. One common problem is an out of spec ejector block placement which can cause the rear of the mag to sag and bind on the bolt hold open pin resulting in failure to feed. It can also cause unreliable ejection.

I've got an FAL built on a Hesse that works well enough now. It took larger than normal locking shoulder to get headspace in spec, and it also had the sagging mag syndrome which was fixed by adding a bead of weld to the mag release. Now that those issues have been corrected, it works. I wouldn't avoid one just because of the Hesse name, but I'd make sure it's a good enough deal to account for the possibility that a few shortcomings may need to be fixed.

My suggestion is Sober up today and start Your search anew tomorrow. I base this opinion after examining stripped Hesse and Vulcan stripped AR recievers.........Essex

Century/Hesse recievers:barf:
DSA or IMBEL:)

If it's a good enough buy, and the rest of the rifle is A-1, buy it with the intention of replacing the reciever at a later date. Think of the Hesse as a way to keep your "parts kit" together for a little while. But then, my face ain't gonna be near that thing either:D

Shoot the gun. If it functions fine who cares what action. By the way a Hesse receiver should be way cheaper than a DSA.

I know it's not a FAL reciever, but this is the famous 2 Shot Hesse AR reciever. Lasted 2 rounds before it broke (I was the shooter). A lot of speculation about what happened, but the bottom line is that there is no warranty.

We try to get it out to the gun shows when we can.

It seems that I recall seeing a Hesse AR reciever at a local shop that was some kind of injection molded material. This must have been inferior to Glock type material since it had about a 11/2" crack in the mag well. Junk
