hey high road , I just ordered a new Glock 20 , what to expect?

I just purchased it from a northern WA store, it cost me 520 with the law enforcement/mil(Army) discount, and comes with three hi cap mags, but I have read a lot of info on them and the size will be perfect for the powerful round but , what should I expect from this 10mm cartridge, and the glock 20, any suggestions, advise , modification anything at all thanks in advance high road I bought it to back up my savage 110 in 30-06 for this season, I think it will be a great combination,

Congrats! The Glock 20 is a really soft shooting platform for the 10mm. The only mods that I consider absolutely necessary on ANY Glock, is to replace those hokey plastic sights! As a matter of preference, I also change the barrel with a cut rifiled one to facilitate the use of lead bullets. There are a lot of things you can do to improve the shootability of your Glock, but it should be quite serviceable "as is", with the exclusion of the sights, of course. I hope you reload if you plan to shot the 10mm much. Factory ammo is quite "spendy" around here! Plus, full powered factory loads are hard to find. Enjoy your 10!

Congrats on what is arguably the best 10 mm combat handgun available!

For ammo, you've got to try Double Tap! They offer a wide range of high performance 10 mm loadings. I'm not a hunter, so my favorite DT ammo is the 135 gr, 1600 fps, 767/ft lbs Nosler! That performance is square in .357 magnum territory, in a fast, frangible self-defense load. For hunting, look at the 200 gr hard-cast loadings. The "Four Pack" is a good deal, and lets you try several ammo-types for a flat price.

As for the gun, it's a Glock! I own three, and I'm spoiled silly by the lack of problems! My G21 has over 9000-rounds through it--1200 of those are 10 mm from a KKM Caliber Conversion Barrel. Our two 9 mms have given flawless performance.

If you're going to use the gun for SD/HD, consider a quality weapon light, laser designator, night sights, appropriate ammo, and additional magazines.

I always add a "butt plug" and new sights...

Bar-Sto, Storm Lake, KKM and Lone Wolf offer excellent aftermarket barrels for shooting naked lead and reloads...

When you pull the trigger your body will be propelled into the wall while your arms fall to the floor after being ripped off. Okay actually recoil isn't anything like that despite what some people say. Its actually a gun gun to shoot. The only real thing to expect is high ammo bills unless you're a reloader.

Ok, ok, you guys broke me down, I'll talk! While it's still true that you don't NEED any modifications beyond good sights, I do a few to make my Glocks more shootable. For my sometimes carry Glock (36) an extra power striker spring, night sights and a "Glock Clip". For my game Glocks I do a little more.
Fiber Optic sights/Ultimate Trigger Stop/Reduced Power Striker Spring/3.5 connector/ either a +or- trigger spring (depending on the pull I want)/Lone Wolf Barrel/Polish all internals to smooth the trigger/extended mag catch and slide stop. For purely cosmetic purposes I install the chrome pin kit, plug and aluminum trigger. Still isn't pretty, but something that ugly needs a little Bling when it's out in public! For a hunting handgun like the 20, I'd do the trigger mods, keeping the stock striker spring for reliability, change the sights and barrel, and install a plug. If you wanted to pick up a couple fps you could get the 6" aftermarket barrel. See how easy it is to turn a $400 gun into an $800 one!!! Ha ha-----------------------

I now own

four Glocks, two model 23s in 40S&W, a 32 in 357 Sig and a model 21 in 45 ACP. I originally bought the 21 to resell, I picked it up last week for $375 LNIB with Trijicon night sites. Since these go for almost $200 more locally I figured I could make an easy hundred on it if I wanted. The only problem is that I decided to shoot it this week. I was surprised how well it shot for me and I even like the way it feels. It was very accurate, for a Glock. I am probably going to hang on to it for a while though I don't think you will find me carrying it. My 23s and 32 still get the nod for concealed carry.

You don't need to do anything to it right away, shoot it as is. Night sights are a good idea, I have them on three of the four guns and I won't buy one without them unless it is a screemin deal. If I keep both 23s I will be adding night sights to the one without. I have thought of adding things like the 3.5 lb trigger and the extended slide release and mag release but I see no real need for them. If you do reload, the aftermarket barrel makes good sense so that you can shoot lead. If you shoot a lot you will save the cost of the barrel very quickly. Even lead bullets are getting expensive but copper jacketed is even more so.

I expect that you'll take up reloading as almost every other person I know who shoots a 10mm has Once you do that you'll realize just how versatile the 10 really is.

Is the 10mm that much more expensive than the .40?!?!?! My friend bought a Glock 22 with his military discount for $350 with every listed above included. Not saying you got ripped off, it just seems like a lot more money than I would think.

Well taking in some advice , but I well keep it simple, Im about to order a LWD G-20 10 MM External Ported Barrel and a set of Trijicon Night Sights (yellow rear and green front sights) I will be getting a robar finish later on but not going to get a grip reduction yet , what does the plug do and does anybody have any experience with the items that I listed tell me what you all think?http://glockparts.com/?mainURL=/store/category/62mw/Sights.html

after all is said and done it should cost me about 210 to my door , how much is it to get sights installed and will I lose any reliablity with the lone wolf ext. ported barrel and would I need anything else with the new barrel. Let me know what yall think

I was referring just to the Glock and 3 hi caps. $520 seems way too high for a mil discount. That is more along the lines of standard street price. What was the sticker for everyone else?

I have bought four of the Lone Wolf barrels and have shot matches with perhaps a dozen others using the barrels. I have not witnessed any reliability problems with any of them. Some say the plug keeps deribs out of the internals. I say it gives the gun a more finished look, that might be reason enough to have one. A .40 barrel might be nice to have for it as well for plinking. Even if you reload, you don't want to lose that 10mm brass!

Congratulations on your purchase.
My Glock 20 was an anomaly, it consistently shot 2 inch groups, a whole foot and a half low from a bench rest, at 50 yards. Thought about trading it in, tried lots of different types of factory loads, and even I reload for it. Nothing lifted the group higher.
I ended up buying an adjustable rear sight and the 6Inch hunting barrel for it and now it is an excellent shooter. I take it everywhere out in the field with me when hunting or camping.
I have no complaints about mine now, it's a good shooter.

I love mine. I got a LWD barrel, a Wolff #22 spring and guide rod and reload for mine. AA#9 under 155 GDHP makes for a mean round.
It carries well, even for a full size auto.
For fun, Blue Dot makes for some awesome muzzle fireballs.
