I was told from another forum to refer this question to TropicalZ. Anyone else feel free to respond if you know how this conversion can be done. Thanks

I have recently purchased a Hi-Point polymer 45ACP. My question is, where can I get a barrel to make this a 400 Corbon? I called Hi-point and the guy didn't really know what a 400 Corbon was. Hi-Point makes a 40cal using the same frame and all. Would one of their 40cal barrels work.

Thanks for all your help!

The idea that someone would spend more money on a barrel than the gun to convert to a "hot" caliber for a gun that will be overstressed and not very accurate.

:D says it better.

You're just foolin', right?

CZ-75, I was just trying to find out if it was possible and then how much it was. I thought the gun shot great and felt great as well. Just as nice to shoot as my Beretta 92FS, it just doesn't take down as easy. If I could get the new barrel for 100 or less I would probably do it just to mess around with.

NashvilleGuy,

Try the PM or Private Message box to send an E mail directly to Tropical Z. Not many people on this board have a high opionion of High Points. Some have gone so far as to suggest they are extremely dangerous. I don't know, I've never seen one except in pictures and I must say, They sho is ugly!

Nahvilleguy,

I think I saw your post over a KTOG? and was going to suggest you come here too, but my browser went down and I'm at work.

I think you are going to thru some "hazing" as a new shooter/poster around the boards. Many, many arguments have been had regarding the Hi-point line.

Anyway, TropicalZ is our resident Hi-point man. He will be able to advise you.

Please do some searches at www.thefiringline.com (now closed, but database works) and you will know all you ever wanted, and not wanted, to know about your pistol.

Regards,

ehenz

ps. Welcome to the best firearm forum in the world (I'm not kidding)!!!!!

A .40 barrel will definitely NOT work. The .400 Cor-Bon is a .45 Winchester Magnum case shortened and necked down to .40 caliber - a .40 barrel's chamber would be 100% wrong for the .400. Even if it would theoretically fit, there's no WAY would I touch off a round of that in a straight blowback auto like a Hi-Point. Of course, I think it's a moot point, as to the best of my knowledge nobody makes a .400 Cor-Bon barrel for a Hi-Point.

.400 Cor-Bon in a Hi-Point?!

That would be colorful, at least...

Wonder what the slide velocity would be as it departed the frame enroute to the shooter's cranium?

It would probably work, should you find a barrel. We just had a disgust-tion about the Corbon round in another thread. It is a standard 45ACP case necked down to 40 caliber. It is a low pressure round and can use the same recoil spring as the 45. I've never seen anyone offer custom barrels for the Hi Point line. As many have said, one would cost as least as much as the pistol if not much, much more!

Pressures for .400 Corbon really aren't that much higher than .45 ACP +P and Hi-Points are rated for '+P+', including the .45 model. I can see no reason why it wouuldn't work if a barrel were to be found or manufactured for .400 Corbon.

Don't know of anyone making .400 Corbon barrels for the Hi-Point. Have you tried asking MKS to see if they are able to make one? (Start off with a .45 blank, bore out to .40, ream to .400 C.) Who knows, maby they have a prototype or two for that caliber.

...Well, I'll take your word for it. But I'll let someone else test it out, and I'll stand behind something solid when they do. :uhoh:

Hi-Points are fine shooting reliable handguns and all the crybaby whiners in the world wont change my mind. They are tough and accurate and mine has embarrassed many a high priced handgun and that makes em even sweeter! Their only drawback is disassembly. This takes longer than most handguns but on a Hi-Point only needs to be done every 1500 rounds or so.Most of the so called "experts" on Hi-Points couldnt point one out if it fell off the ceiling and dented their thick skulls! I would guess that 400 corbon would be fine with the right barrel.
:neener:

Hmm, having trouble getting into that recguns site. But, a similar, if not identical article on .400 Corbon/.45 ACP +P relation.

http://www.glockmeister.com/400cb.shtml

As of January 1997, Starline beefed up the 400 Corbon brass, even though it wasn't really necessary; the brass weighs about 10 grains more now -- aprox 94.5 grains, compared to the older brass weighing in at around 84 grains. The tough bottle-necked case of the 400 Corbon, in conjunction with the new modern 400 Corbon barrel standard, can handle full power Corbon factory loads (using powder unavailable to reloaders), with pressures up to 26,500 psi. One of Corbon's goals was simply to match 10mm specs with the 135 grain bullet, not necessarily to supercharge it beyond those specs. In this way the 45 Auto can be used without making major changes; just drop in a barrel.

In fact, the standard .45 has two SAAMI standards: 21000 psi for standard loads, and 25000 psi for .45+ loads. The top full-power factory 400 Corbon loads just slightly exceed the .45+ standard. It should be noted that most of the starting 400 Corbon loads with a 5" barrel still make the IPSC Major Power Factor, even without stressing the caliber's upper limits.
