Hi-Point Firearms

None of your links worked(for me atleast). And I won't deny that some might have problems. But again, its the same with ANY firearm from ANY manufacturer.

Until you've handled one yourself, its not really fair to pass judgement. If you buy and don't like it, you can sell it, probably for what you paid for it.

And if it disappoints, well it wasn't an expensive firearm so perhaps it is to be expected. Wouldn't you feel a lot worse if that "quality" firearm that cost 3 or 4 times as much turned out to have just as many problems?

They must be terrible guns. If you don't want yours, I'll take it off your hands cheap. It will go well with my other ones. 7 jhp 45's and 2 C9's in the family. No malfunctions except for a falulty mag. follower. Eats anything we feed them and works every time. I carry an HP45 and no one knows I have it on even if I tell them it's there. Yeah, terrible guns.

Oh, by the way, my grandsons 1911 gives problems and my son-in-laws Glock does the same. But, you know, they are good guns because they cost more. They surely like their HiPoints though.

I've bought my grandson and I each a HP carbine, and each of us a Ruger 10/22. Both HP carbines are trouble-free, but both 10/22's are jamming pieces of junk.

IMO, High Point is targeting a niche market, a specific demographic that wants/needs a gun for either fun or sport, but isn't necessarily a "gunny", and doesn't want to spend much. The occasional plinker. Maybe those looking for a low-cost pistol for a low-level duty, like truck gun, tool box gun, tacklebox gun, under-the-workbench gun, hide-it-in-the-closet gun, etc. I'd like to buy a few just to hide around the crib.

But our carbines are a blast!

The one Hi-Point firearm I shot was a friend's 9mm carbine. Ugly, but it put a magazineful of bullets where I wanted them to go with no malfunctions. I can't say that about the handgun I paid over $900 for.

I handled a .45 pistol at a gun show. Who knew zinc was so heavy? :D But if I needed a gun and $186 (their asking price) was all I had, I would buy it.

Every gun has its own "fanboys" (although I am a fanboy of almost any gun ;)
But I have/had a C9(sold it to buy diapers---8*( ), a CF380 (one was stolen from me, but I bought another), and have a 995B Carbine. They are all ugly (compared to pretties like BHPs, CZ, etc), but they all shot well-- I know many carry them as a CCW, but they seem to heavy to me for that- my first one was a CF380 that I bought as a truck/boat gun, and after shooting it, I was hooked. They are inexpensive, but they serve a purpose-- they give people with limited funds access to reliable guns. While I am better now financially, I probably will replace my C9--

None of mine needed work done, (I did F&B my C9 for the heck of it), and I recommend them to beginners and vets alike--

To each his own though!

My dad bought one as his first and only gun. I was extremely skeptical, so I went with him to the store trying to talk him into spending another $100 on the G22 I wanted to get rid of. No dice, he bought the Hi Point. I traded the Glock.

We took it to the range immediately thereafter and I have to say I was impressed. I fed 100 rounds though it with no hiccups out of the box. He fed another 50, same deal. We've had it out a couple of more times, and the same good results until trying to feed it cheap ammo. I screwed up and bought some reloaded SWCs from Dicks Sporting Goods for cheap. Big mistake! It will fire one or two, then jam. It feeds Speer hollow points just fine.

Now, what I don't like about it. It's heavy. Too heavy. That heaviness helps keep the muzzle down, but it's still heavy.... It's ugly. Looks like something from Star Trek. Has a cheap feel to it. It's also bulky. I find it more difficult to pull it out of a holster and put it on target than I do my other pistols. Did I mention it's heavy?

If a Hi Point is all you can afford or you just want something cheap, I think it's a fair amount of gun for money. I just couldn't admit to owning one.:D
