I bought a Springfield XDM in 45 ACP and have been fun shooting it. As a revolver guy, it is surprising to realize how easy it is to shoot a full size service pistol with modern ergonomics even in a cartridge that has recoil on the heavy side. I was thinking about the hi points despite their reputation for being fugly/clunky. The carbines seem to be reasonably solid guns. How about the pistols? Considering their price point, I could see one as a truck gun. Are they junk, or just basic blowback guns?

The first gun I ever bought new was a hipoint 40 and 45 the we’re both reliable and accurate. If you want it they will work and have a amazing warranty I bought a 995 carbine used it was rusty and froze up but only paid 10$ I shipped it to hipoint a couple weeks later I received my gun back with every part replaced a extra mag and a letter of apology for it breaking. Hipoints are heavy ugly and a pain to clean. But they are reliable accurate and the company stands behind every one.

Fugly and they work. Check out the torture tests on YouTube. Here is one. They did everything they could to ruin the pistol then did THIS......

I like the 40 and 45 a lot more than I like the 9. The former two at least have decent sized grips to go with them; the 10 shot 9mm sized grip with the giant slide just doesn't work at all for me.

IME, the Hi-Point pistols don't like steel case ammo because it's probably a little too underloaded to consistently work the big blowback slide, but feed them brass and they will go off every time. They're more accurate than you'd think too. I use them as plinkers, and for that application, they're a lot of fun for $150.
