I just bought a Hi Point 995 ($195 @ Dunhams sports)

Very happy with it though have not shot it yet. don't believe I want the ATI stock now but was wondering if I should order the compensator-is this a worthwhile add on to get? What does it do?

Thanks

I don't have one but the recoil isn't that bad that I think I need one.

You'll find people are either really positive or really negative about it. You'll also find the negatives are about the aesthetics and little else.

I love mine. Never had a FTF/FTE and the customer service is unequaled.

Enjoy.

I don't find the barrel rises much at all on my carbine, more of a smart push back.

Just shoot it, see what you think before buying a bunch of crap you don't need.

I highly recommend a red dot however.

I have a 995 somewhere around here. IMO The best way to keep them is bone stock. You want a pretty gun...DONT buy a Hi Point. They are reliable, cheap, fun, plinkers...some folks put them to work out to 100yrds on Varmints.

Compensator?

What would you compensate for?

There's next to no recoil from a carbine-fired 9mm round.

Muzzle rise is insignificant.

Unless, of course, you've got one of those new NFA 995 models with the 50-round mag.

In which case I wanna see photos.

:D

+1 to what they all said. Hardly any muzzle rise with that gun. Very easy to keep it on target from one shot to the next. A lot or people complain about the Hi Point's looks, but I don't care about the looks. I find the factory stock to be comfortable. Its very easy to shoulder and sight.

I have a 995 and had a compensator. It didn't really change the recoil impulse, and it's really ugly. Even uglier than the rifle. It also was quite heavy and extended the rifle by 2 inches or so. It does allow you to mount a light or laser to it. If you don't care about a light or laser or are getting the ATI stock, I'd skip it. That being said, if the comp looked like an A2 birdcage and didn't weigh a pound, I'd have one.

The compensator compensates the guys who can't live without gimics...It will likely make the report louder behind the muzzle, as most do. There's not enough recoil to need any attenuation...

Shoot it first without the red dot. I found mine to be more accurate with the iron sights. You may also and then you'll have more money for more mags!

I like mine alot, it's accurate, lots of fun and cheap to shoot. I just wish the trigger was better. Maybe one day I'll get to fully disassembling it and consider some polishing on the trigger parts.

I really can't see the muzzle brake having any real effect (other than aesthetics) on this rifle.

It sure is one ugly rifle though!
