cabelas has them for $269 and im tempted.

glock isn't about to come out with a 9mm carbine that you know of right?

does the hi point like steel case ammo?

any idea on barrel life? or the whole gun? i don't want it if it starts crapping out after a few thousand rounds.

I have the 40 cal version and its a hoot to shoot. Its been 100% reliable, probably have over 500 rounds through it by now. The accuracy at 40 yards will shock you, it has very good sights on it.

Being a pistol round with a very low powder charge, the barrel should last forever.

I haven't shot steel case in it, I reload my own 40 S&W for 15 cents/round.

I sent somewhere between one and two thousand rounds through the one I used to have. No noticable wear. Only hiccup I had was with JHPs in aftermarket mags. Everything else was spot on.

Steel cases? I dont know, I dont mess with those. I usually fed it my "spirited" handloads. 115 fmj at 1500fps. So I was harder on it than the average user.

The reports of poor durability among any of the HiPoints are mostly a myth if you ask me. Even if you did have a problem, any problem, HiPoint will gladly take care of it.

I do not own a HiPoint carbine (ever) or a pistol (anymore) but I have heard a few things I'll pass along until someone smarter comes along.

1) HiPoints pretty tough guns in general, and relatively speaking 9mm is a slow round so barrel life should be stellar. They come with a nearly unmatched warranty so if you had a problem I fully trust that HiPoint would make right with you.

2) It's a straight blow back so you shouldn't notice any particular problems with steel case other than that steel case tends to be loaded soft with some brands. But soft load brass would have the same issues so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Freedom Munitions has brass plated steel case for .17 every day of the week so if steel was ever an issue you could pick that stuff up, it's a huge upgrade from straight steel.

Now, a few things that kept me from picking one up.

A) The magazine disconnect safety. It's a bit of a learning curve.

B) Forget +P. Nope, no +P in a blowback gun. Which is a bummer, if you're going for eeking all you can out of a 9mm with a longer barrel.

If you can live with A and B I think you'd be getting a great deal!

Hi-Point has a lifetime warranty that by all accounts I have read they stand behind.

Hickock45 tested it and liked it. Check out his video on YouTube. There are several more videos like it. The only real complaint is it only comes with a 10 round magazine.

It is on my short list also depending on the up coming election.

Mag safety? On the carbine? I recall no such thing. On the handguns maybe.
Old ones, no. New ones, yes. At least I'm pretty sure that's what I was reading on their website. They've been switching over to having all the carbines have the mag safety, and now they do. But if you're buying used that might not matter if you get an old one.

Friend has one in 9mm, sent it back three times for repair. The warranty did not cover shipping cost to send it for the repairs. Good warranty service...yes,but he has a 100 bucks in shipping charges to swallow. I own the CX4storm in 9mm and never a problem.

Folks keep buying it while it is ugly, it must be good! Honestly, I had one in 9mm, fun to shoot and pretty accuracy but it is so ugly and I sold it. Now I have an itch to get another one but it is getting expensive! It was around $160 when I had mine.

If cabelas has them for $269, probably can find them $220 at other places!

Bought one for my father in law for HD. He is 83 and has arthritis. He loves it. I have shot the heck out of it too and I love it. Buy it, you will love it. That is better than any price I've seen around here. They are rated for plus P.

The carbine versions of Glock that I am aware of are "shoulder stocked pistol" variations which fall under 1934 National Firearms Act "short barrel rifle" ($200 federal registration tax). So, that's not an economical option.

A guy at the club had a HiPoint 9mm carbine (may still have it). I shot it with with his Wolf brand steel-case ammo; if I kept his red dot sight within the middle of the 100m pig target, it went *clang*. The gun did not stutter and worked consistently. It was his loaner that he brought out on Ladies' Day. His gun was popular. And he and others shot it a lot.

HiPoint 9mm carbines are cheap and ugly looking, but they seem to work better than the high price spread.

Big complaint is the 10 shot factory magazine. The HiPoint was legal under the Clinton AWB 1994-2004 for that reason. Their factory mags have a good rep for reliability. The larger capacity after-market magazines from non-HiPoint sources do not have a reputation for reliability.

Call me old fogey. I would rather have 10 shots reliable, than over 10 shots questionable. I have a CBC 7022 rifle with 10 shot factory magazines and a 25 shot after market magazine. When I am on the mountain, concerned about my safety, I count on the 10 shot factory magazines. The 25 shot is a range convenience and took too much work to make sort of reliable.

Friend of mine and I both have one. No repairs needed, work fine with steel case, and they are indeed +P rated. Pretty? No. Fun? Yes.

Have the 995ts, and the C9 pistol, not my carry guns (those are rugers), but they are fun range guns, kids love to shoot both, wife loves the carbine, no recoil to speak of, and eats cheap 9mm like candy. It is her "Zombie" gun and she can get to it in a hurry at home if needed. Extremely accurate at short ranges (~25 yds)

No issues, no regrets in purchasing either, I have a combo that I have a total of $400 into and they both go bang every time. Buy a few extra 10 rd mags or the new Redball 20 rd mag for $25 bucks - Mag is approved by hipoint from what I have read.

I like my light and tough rugers, but, for the price, my hi-points work and the carbine is a fun gun to shoot.

YMMV

Dave

Yeah, I have one too. a "New Style" 9MM.

It's still ugly, but not like the "Old Style" planet of the apes gun.

It's official status is it's the wife's home defense gun. She can work it, it doesn't scare her, and she can hit with it.

I enjoy shooting it. too.

As mentioned above, it's never ever jammed before and will eat every thing I have fed it. Aluminum case, steel case, brass case, hollow point, ball, whatever.

The sights are a little different, but they work well and adjust easily. popping most targets is easy and it always leaves a smile on my face.

265 seems to be the magic number. That's what I payed for mine at a gun show.

By now, it should be obvious that everybody that has played with one of these agrees that it's one hell of a bargain. If you think you want one- get it!

Get one! If it's anything like mine, after about that 1st 100 rounds, when the trigger smooths up significantly, you'll need a big gulp of vinegar or lemon juice to get the grin off of your face.

Seriously, I've probably put 2000 rounds through mine, with ONLY 3 drops of oil on the bolt and it has neve missed a beat; well, unless you count the time that I used a Pro-Mag 15 rounder and turned my terrific semi-auto into a truly magnificent...single shot...:banghead:

Oh yeah! Just remembered; I sent it back to Hi-Point, they fixed it, and sent me a new magazine for my troubles!!!

Good gun, good company.

Sam

I have a 995 and a 4095, both old style, both ugly as sin, and both accurate, reliable, and a hoot! And I got 'em back when they were still inexpensive.

Same here. Mine was an older version, kept breaking. I finally had enough and got a CX4. Ironically it had to be sent back for a cracked plastic trigger group 'frame' if you will. Weird defect in the molding and has been fine since.

I no longer have to deal with the single stack 10rd mags either, many more options with the 92fs version. The 45acp would have been awesome but not willing to spend the $$ for the mag conversion.

If anyone want to get rid of their broken 995 at the cheap, I will take it! I can get it fixed under warranty and they are local to me!

On Slickgun, you can find couple places sell them around $240 shipped, but I still think an AR probably is a better deal and much better looking while AR price is down to around $400.

I paid $304 out the door for mine last year. $269 is a deal.

Try Mike @ Red Barn Guns, prices are pre-taxed (6.7% tax for AZ residents only) and shipping to you FFL is actual cost of shipping.

His # is 520-868-0055. Prices are very cheap.

Oct 2015 prices were: 995TS $238, 4095TS $248, and 4595TS $265

Side Note; I am not Mike. He is my FFL.

From everything I have read, Hi-Points are selling as fast as they can make them so they are not changing a thing. Redball Sports makes a 20 round mag for the 9mm carbine. I just bought the 995ts and 3 of the 20 round mags. The gun and mags ran perfect. The mags are Hi-Point approved and even sold on their web site. As far as shipping, I checked and it is about $13 for me to ship my gun back if needed. Hi-Point puts a new mag in the box when they ship it back to you to help defray the cost. There is no mag disconnect, but unlike almost all PCC, it has a handy last round bolt hold open, a great feature. I ran 350 rounds through it the 1st time out and had a blast. Where can you get that kind of reliability right out of the box for $246.00? I looked at higher priced PCC , but most were ammo sensitive. The 995ts eats everything. As far as accuracy, With a trs25 red dot, 100 yd shots were no problem. Don't know about longer distance, range only went to 100.

Thanks webrx and edknn! I just went to hi-pointfirearms.net. They list the 20 rd. magazine there. I guess something else that needs added to my wares. ;)
