Hi-Point Better than You think

Y'all are free to your opinions and thats fine, but there is a reason that not a single person who puts his life in harms way as part of his occupation uses a hi-point.
Really? If you'd been where I was in NOLA last year, you'd have seen at least 6 in use by security officers, all of whom were in high risk areas at the time.

I have a hi-point. It is fun to shoot holes in paper targets and milk jugs with. It fires everytime and the bullets fired from it hit what I aim at. Why does it have to be amy more complicated than that?

I also drive a Chevy truck its a little beat up, but I like it and it serves it purpose. It it less of a truck because it is not as pretty as a new one? Quick answer, nope.

The guy that started this thread likes his gun, good for him. No need to bash him for it.

I too have a hi-point C9. When I can keep it loaded it is great. Fires every time, and shoots straight.

But the Magazine I have is JUNK!

Tilt-o-matic. Quality mag and the pistol would be a real bargain. Right now it is highly unreliable.

Source or link, please?

Show me a military on this earth, or a police force in this nation that issues the hi-point. Show me a law enforcement agency that specifically certifies the hi-point for use. There may be some sheriff somewhere in pokipsie that uses one, but I'm not even sure about that.

And I don't blame them at all. I think thats a situation where the hi-point would be great. Its cheap, you can get it wet and not care, if it gets confiscated no big deal.

In that situation however, your primary objective is not to attack an enemy, but rather to have something to provide protection should the need arise. Running into someone armed is not a given and odds are if you do, its going to be some gangbanger or looter who isn't going to want to stick around and start a firefight.

Add to the above, in all the target shooting sessions, the Hi-Points were among the most reliable I saw. In sessions where I saw a Beretta, a Glock and two XDs stop from jams, the Hi-Points functioned flawlessly. They were pretty darn accurate too.

Ive shot the High point next to my own guns.

Its an ugly hunk of pot metal but they work just fine. If he likes it more power to him its his call.

I'm

A) Too much of a Gun snob to own one.
B) They don't offer it in 357SIG (Not fun for a straight blow back)
C) I'm a gigantic gun snob
D) I'm partial to Guns made in German speaking nations.....because they make the best in the world (Sig HK Walther and Glock)
E) More Gun snobbery.

Haven't had the opportunity to fire their pistol, but if it works for you. More power for you.

My father has the 9MM Carbine and loves it. I admit that I have fired this and have thoroughly enjoyed it. While not my first choice for self-defense, home defense, etc. It's a fun, inexpensive plinking carbine. I picked up some hi-cap magazines for it (15 rounds  ) and will try to see what happens.

What do you use the pistol for? It seems bulky for conceal and carry. Maybe as a night-stand Home Defense gun?

My Uncle bought my brother a Hi-Point 9mm this year. My Uncle also bought 3 Hi-Points for his kids. Honestly, they all had nothing but problems with the guns. Everytime we go to the range they always jam up after 1 or 2 shots. I know it is not the ammo because they used just about every ammo through the guns and they kept jamming up. Its weird because other people have no problems with their Hi-Points, but we do??? I guess thats what you get when you buy a handgun for $180 bones.

Zombie Thread

Folks, this thread had been sitting dormant since Sept. On the other hand, if we must discuss Hi-Points, better to keep this one alive than start a new thread I think.

Skywarp you said

You do realize Glock is an Austrian owned company, right? They make their pistols there too, and they speak Austrian. The old Rohm RG revolvers were German made ;). Just ribbin ya. Any country, speaking any language, can make great guns, and horrible guns.

Yep,Glock designers speak Austrian. It's related to English but eet ees moo-wah drawn ahout and spoken yoo-shoo-ahly low-dah.The most notable Austrian speakers being Rainier Wolfcastle and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

As with any group of people who collect and or otherwise make a hobby of something, you will find eliteists and the like. Take people who think that unless the lable is written in a foreign language the wine must be horrid. This also applies to Cheese Goumands as well. A lot of Car buffs think that unless it says Ford it is Garbage, Oddly enough a roughly similiar amount of car afficionados will say the same thing to the exception of inserting Chevy /Chrysler /Buick /BMW /Mercedes pick your brand and insert it. (not specificly into this sentence)
You will hear all sorts of arguments about Brands here, I have yet to here one that boils down to anything but preference. Since I can't afford the High End Firearms I buy functional low end or middle of the pack. I have yet to have one have parts fall off in my hands as others have said would happen. I have yet to have one explode and Maime me like people have told me they would, and I have yet to have one Jump Up and give me an orgasm like some people told me their gun would.
Two manufactures that I avoid like the plague are Jennings, and Lorcin I'm sayng that because I had nothing but trouble with weapons maunfactured by them.
Others will tell you the same thing about an Arms Manufacture from the Former Eastern Block (Pick One) But I have had nothing but good practical shooters from FEG / Baikal / Cz and their like. I ony paid $150.00 for an IJ 70 in 380 and it was one of the best guns I ever owned, I sold it before I learned the lesson not to sell guns. But since I paid so little for it I had all kinds of people telling me it was a Cheap POS and I should not trust it.
The bottom line is practical experience outstrips popular and or stated opinion every time. If a person tells me he has had a good experience with a particular manufacturer I will investigate. I may Test fire one if I can and make a decision based on my experience.
BTW I have had a person tell me that Browning Hi-Powers were not very reputable since they were run if the mill mass produced weapons. He would only trust his life to a Custom Kimber. That clown even works at a gunshop.

I just looked at a few Hi-Points. I apologize for ever thinking Glocks were ugly.

Hi-Point takes the grand prize.

I won't say anything more. Aesthetics are important to me, very important.

Bah! Austrian German is near identical to German. I'm asking an Austrian!

I think it something in the language that makes them make good guns. English has deviated too far from German so we've lost a lot of our abilities.

Their carbines are supposed to be quite reliable, but a cast-iron (or is that cast zinc alloy? :neener: ) pain to field strip & clean. The pistols might be accurate and also reliable if you get one that wasn't made at a quarter to five on a Friday, but for the money, I'd rather go for a Mak, a PA-63, or maybe even one of those Armscorp .38 Revolvers. Rather than get two of them, I'd rather have one Witness or a Kel-Tec. If it works, a High-Point is a serviceable pistol for those on a tight budget, but there's really some better options out there if you look for them.

BTW: I'm sure that some cops have bought High-Points. After all, why waste a bunch of cash on a drop piece?

guns are like cars...a kia will get you to where you are going and give you good service...but you dont want your buddies to know you drive one :D
