Just spent all my mad money on a new Kimber, now I find out High Point has something new! Ain't it my luck. :banghead:

Sisco- I almost fell off my chair there! :p

I'm glad that capitalism prevails and people buy Hi-Points. But they're are definitely not for me.

I'll agree Daniel, there is a need for High Point. Just thankful I don't need one.
I read a report on one in Gun Tests magazine. While they thought is was top heavy and inaccurate they did point out that it never failed to feed or fire in their tests. They also said you could get the same results with a brick and a nail but the brick and nail would probably be more comfortable.

Arghhhh! Now I've got to get some emergency medical treatment for my eyes.... :cuss:

Huh, I think I'll give the poly .45 a try when it comes out.

I don't know guys. Their 9MM COMP with the laser accessory seems mighty tempting.

..... Not .....

I dunno, I never was impressed with their handguns, but have tried the 9mm carbine and it was kinda fun. Now if they'd just bring one out in .45 ACP they'd have another customer.

In any case I've been tempted to buy one of their .45's *not* because I think it'll replace my kimber or my PT-945, but just because they're an American company and I know the fact that their firearms are inexpensive yet functional has got to gaul the bradyites and other socialists tremendously! :D

Sisco,
Yes, there is indeed a niche for the high Point!! That need is exemplified by this statement on the web site in question!!!

It is a violation of Federal Law for a convicted felon to possess or even attempt to buy a firearm.

Only here have I seen this stated!! There's your niche!!!

They know who the majority of their customers are!!! :neener:

i shot 1.if you dont have the funds for a more refined pistola then for the money they shoot.cant say id want 1 fer myself(too much kentucky windage going on) but whatever floats your boat.incidently, tried the carbine out too, broke the grip just inserting a mag.all was forgiven and i didnt have to buy it.

I can almost convince myself I need a carbine

Then I go to the gunshow and see the The Hi-Points and the whole idea goes away. I really would love a 9 mm carbine about that size. It would be wonderbar if I could run my CZ mags in it.

Hi-Point........a company that appears to work overtime designing the ugliest guns they can make.
S-

In all seriousness...I would consider the 45 just for a "fun" gun...

I dont have a 45...and I dont really feel like plopping down 600 for one...So the high point 45 might serve me well as a weekend plinker.

I kinda want that 380 also.

I love cheap guns...as long as they dont explode in my hand.

I admit it, I bought a Hi-Point .380 a few years ago when I didn't know the difference between it and a H&K. Since then I have shot the crap out of it and cannot make it malfunction for anything. It's also very fun to shoot and suprisingly accurate. The new website look's great also. I now have some much nicer gun's then a Hi-Point and alot more gun knowledge but my Hi-Point has stayed and will remain with me. I would not at all be suprised if another one ends up in my collection one day. Besides I'm not even sure if some of my higher dollar gun's could handle +P+ ammo like my Hi-Point can. ;)

Actually, you guys have almost convinced me to buy a Hi-Point.

Anything that is as universally reviled as the Hi-Point is, I've just got to see for myself what everyone is slamming. I can't imagine anything being that bad.

Actually though, I've only seen one pistol I think is uglier than the Hi-Point and that's a Glock.

No, I'm not a Glock hater, just think it's the ugliest pistol I've ever seen.

That's what I did. After reading the posts of people either abolutely hating it (majority) or absolutely loving it (minority), I went to research it somemore. It seemed the majority of the majority have never owned or fired it. And the majority of the minority have.

Went and got the 9mm Comp to see for myself. It has worked great. I did finally get one failure to feed after ~700 rounds. Grossly underrated in my experience.

Did the same thing with Glock. Certainly a good gun but, IMO, much overrated.

My 995 carbine w/red dot, compensator and touch laser has never jammed after 6-700+ rounds. Wanne envision ugly? Imagine when I put a 4-16X 50mm BSA CatsEye scope on it this past spring and took a gobbler with 124gr+P Gold Dots.

Their polymer framed models seem to have fixed a lot of the shortcomings of their older steel models; last shot slide lock, regularly positioned mag release, 10-round mag, etc.

As long as they work well, who cares what they look like? It's better than no gun at all, and I'd much rather a new shooter buy a Hi-Point and lots of ammo to practice with than an $1400 custom job that screws up their budget for months and they can't afford much in the way of ammo or mags after that.

Sure, you can often find used revolvers for that price. But you can't find used semiautos for $160 very often. Again, I say, AS LONG AS THEY WORK, why not?

'Sides, you Glock owners....Hi-Points ugly? People who live in glass houses....

...and besides. For a company that supposedly produces only junk, they have a darn good warranty.

You know what these pistols remind me of? I read somewhere that during World War II, the US experimented with a stamped metal .45 pistol that would be much easier to mass-produce than the 1911, which required extensive machining. The war ended before it got anywhere, but I imagine something along the lines of the Hi-Point as the end-result of such a project. Cheap and easty to mass produce, and blowback guns are generally less complex than breach locked.

If they're RETAILING for $169.00, I wonder what the actual per-unit production cost is?
