Howdy folks. Next month, I'm getting my ND CWP. To those of you who own a Hi Point C9, what kind of problems have you had with it? How many rounds have you put through it? Is there any ammo that it doesn't like?

*zips up flame suit* I'm thinking about getting one for my CCW.

Here's the info for what I'm getting.

It was my 2nd pistol. It discharged while working action (finger out of trigger guard) It happened to be pointed at the stock of my Mossberg 500 and the arm to my favorite recliner. Good thing I meant to destroy it:eek:

Also minute of barn accuracy with 3 dots or included ghost ring.

I dont normally tell people to spend more $$$ when looking at a particular firearm (I hate that) but, in this case I will.

If you are sold on an auto look at Taurus Mil Pro, Ruger, Bersa, or even a Sigma

If not there are many revolver offerings by Taurus

All of these can be had in the $300ish range. I went with high point because of $$$ but in the long run it cost me the high point + the cost of the replacement.

Just my advice, and I guarantee its worth what you paid for it.

I think they are fine guns for cheap range toys.....I wouldnt CCW one.

There are alot of options that are far better in the same price range.

CZ82s can be had around $200, not much more than the HiPoint. Its a far better pistol.

If you have to stick around the $100 mark look at PA63s and P-64s. Both are going to be great CCW pieces compared to the HiPoint, much smaller and lighter. The PA63 runs around $100 and the P64 about $130.

Unlike everyone else, I will actually address your questions.

I have a Hi-Point C-9. I've put about 2,000 rounds through it. It has jammed maybe a half dozen times.

I've fired WWB, Rem-UMC, American Eagle, Blazer Brass, and "range reloads." I can't think of any particular brand of ammo I've had a problem with, but it does really shoot the American Eagle 115 FMJ ammo well. I've fired a box or so of various HP ammo, and it worked fine with all of them. But I can't say I've fired enough of any brand of HP to say it's 100% reliabe with them, however it was with the limited number of rounds I used.

Yes, you can find other, "better" guns for not a lot more money, but they are more money. If you want to carry a Hi-Point, I can't think of any particular reason not to, other than perhaps that there aren't a lot of holsters for them, but there are some. The C-9 is not all that big and clunky, but I'll admit it's far from a "compact" either at least in my opinion.

Nope. I don't carry mine. I've got a few other guns. If it was the only one I had, I wouldn't hesitate.

Bought my NIB for 110.00. Had to send it back to Hi-point because the magazine lock wouldn't hold the mags in well enough. Free lifetime warranty, so it ended up costing me 12.00 to have it fixed (shipping) and they sent it back in 2 weeks with a free mag. Since then i've run about 1200 rounds through it. Just ball ammo, but never any feed issues or any cycling problems. It is a brick that I wouldn't consider a carry gun, but a cheap plinker - sure.

Mine has been reliable and surprisingly accurate especially considering the trigger is is a bit rough. I would carry it except I don't really like the safety, so I'm not sure I would carry cocked and locked. Besides I have plenty of other guns I like to carry better, including but not limited to:
S&W 3953 9mm
Steyr M9 9mm
Star M30 9mm
Star BM 9mm
Keltec P11 9mm

A lot of people knock them, but a freind of mine bought one because of the price. I went to the range for the break-in and wasn't impressed, but not disapointed either. I don't care for the ergonomics, but they shoot fine. I wouldn't consider carrying it due to weight, but if you need a car gun, go for it.

One thing no has brought up is disasembly. My friend talked me into teaching him how to clean it. They have a really, really wierd set-up where all kinds of parts start coming out when you remove the grips. I wasn't sure I would ever get it back together.

+1 on the Macarov if you can find one. I haven't seen a new one in years.

I have a C-9. I like it. Not my first choice for a carry gun. It's a little heavy and large for that. Great truck gun, beater range gun, etc. If it were All I had, I'd carry it. Mine jams a little more than I'd like. I've had maybe two range trips where it didn't jam at all. I generally shoot 100 or more rounds on any given trip, and my C-9 usually has some sort of failure. Stovepipes are the most common failure for mine. That could be due to the crap that I feed it though.
