 Come on folks.

Last CWP class I ro'ed had a young lady with limited iincome who had a 9 mm Hi Point. It fired everytime she pulled the trigger and her score was better than some other folks using more expensive handguns.

Would it be my first choice? No. Is this lady adequately armed? Yes.

FWIW, the first rule of a gunfight is still "Have a gun" and the second ought to be "have a reliable one". IMHO, she's got the first two covered.

There's a picture of that stamped .45 in Ezell's Handguns of the World. It used the Browning locked breech, but looked like an inbred relative of the Hi-Point.

I bought a Hi-Point carbine because I wanted a pistol-caliber carbine, but I didn't want one very badly.

I have a Hi Point in .40cal it jammed the first 3 rounds. But has not jammed since. Thats about 300rds ago. :) Plinker gun only.:)

As I posted in a recent thread, I ordered a Hi-Point polymer .45. My dealer took the order on the phone and told me it should be there by Monday (four days ago). Yesterday I went in to pick it up. He told me that he can't find one. He said that he called all his regular wholesalers and even a place that sent him a flyer and nobody has a single Hi-Point handgun of any kind in stock.

I guess if it's all you can afford then its probably better than nothing. However, IMHO, these have to be the ugliest pistols ever produced.

What ever happened to Tony Ulichne from TFL? He loved his Hi Point and wasn't afraid to say so. To each his own I guess.

You know, I went back and I have changed my opinion. Hi Points are downright BUTT UGLY! :barf:

I agree with Dan's sentiment. The Hi-Points have a niche to fill, and for someone with very limited funds who needs a home-defense gun, I'm sure that they fit the bill just fine.

That said, to my mind a blowback operated .45 pistol just seems like sloppy engineering to me. In order for it to operate, the slide has to have much more weight than a weapon that uses a Browning-style system.

To go and stick a polymer frame on that in order to make the thing lighter just seems like putting the cart before the horse.

But that's just me. Tropical, if you love your Hi-Point and it does everything you want it to, goodonya.

...Hi-Point race gun...
Lol! A race gun is the polar opposite of a Hi-Point. A race gun has had every possible part replaced or customized, and has piles of money sunk into it. A Hi-Point, even one with a compensator, is a stock, bargain pistol.

But, as Dan and Justin say, they fill a necessary (as illustrated by the company's profits) market niche. Personally, I'll take a more refined weapon.

I keep thinking about picking one up in 9mm as kind of a plinker/car gun that I wouldn't really care that much about. The things are ugly as all get out, but at 80 or so dollars new, it might just be worth looking at.

So what ? Do you buy guns to shoot or to look at ?

You want to see something ugly, I will show you my Sten MK II.

Tamara, concentrate on that front sight. The rest of it is just a distraction.

As I have posted many times before, why can't I buy both and a whole lot of other stuff too ? Along with the ammo ? If there was some kind of limit, I would agree with you; but there isn't.

In fact, when I get my High Point, I will have it, and two CZ52s and more than half a case of ammo for each and all the handloading stuff for them both.

I shot a 9mm one time, yes it was ugggly, but shot everytime I pulled the trigger; hit where I was aiming too! Is there something else a gun is supposed to do? Now I am not going to the gun show tomorrow to buy one; on the other hand, if you ever had to legitimatly defend yourself, the cops are going to confiscate your $$$$$$$$$$ pistol, and some liberal judge may well destroy it (or take it home) for the "good of society". I think I'd rather they take my Hi-Point than my Sig or P7. Damn, now I have myself talked into getting one. I'm not sure I should say thanks to the guy who started this thread, or cuss him out for even bringing it up!:) I wonder if I can keep my friends from finding out I bought one? hmmmm.

If you get in a wreck in your '70 Lamborghini Muira, it'll never get fixed right, either. Perhaps you should give it to me for safekeeping. I promise I'll drive it ever... er, store it safely. ;)

Should I ever even see a Lamborghini whatever; I'll take a pic and send it to you. I can probably at least afford the picture.:)

tropicalz if it blows your hair back and you carry one on a daily basis so be it. I am going to stick to my 1911.

I found it!!! (gack choke)

Yup!! smurfing through that satanic website (with one eye shut to avoid total damage to my vision), I stumbled across this!! Here it is!! My old High Point!! Still looks as fugly as ever!! Bet shoots and functions as good too!! :barf: :barf: :barf:
