Is it 40 S&W or 9MM??
They are nice rifles and quite accurate. I have owned one in 9MM for the past 10years and am happy with it. Here in Parkersburg, WV quite a few officers use them for entry weapons which I didn't believe until I started working for a communications company here and they are commonly seen in the crusiers. Personally I don't know that I would trust my life to one because of their construction but with a red dot they are a blast to shoot. There are also high cap magazines available. The only drawbacks to them is the bolt actuator is on the left hand side and they don't stay open after the last round - at least mine doesn't. I hope they will make the new stock available for the older rifles like mine.

It's a 9mm and i agree the bolt actuator should be on the right. Would i trust my life on it, can't say yet it hasn't earned my trust but that's what i have my other guns for. I bought it for the range + i had lots of left over 9mm and it's small enough for my kids to shoot. My son can't wait to shoot it!
I have heard you can order the new stock??????????? Right from hi point

There's a certain irony to putting on optic on a rifle that costs five times as much as the gun does.

Especially when it's not a top of the line optic!

Okay, snob moment aside...everything that I hear about Hi-Point is basically this.

They are ugly, unbalanced, clunky, and anti-ergonomic. However, almost every review I've read says that they work and they work well and the company stands by their product 100%. You really can't beat that.

The thing which really suprised me about them is there was more recoil than I expected from a 9MM rifle probably due to the light weight. Not horrible but I expected less. Mine is the old style with muzzle break and the new stock may have less recoil. It has been reliable except with surplus Russian ammo - the stuff with painted steel cases which tend to create a lot of crud in the gun. They are a good gun to have in the collection for a SHTF situation where you may need to provide an inexperienced shooter (or in-law you don't particularly care for) with a defensive firearm. I may put a laser on mine some time and try some hip shooting at dusk.

I wouldn't shoot the gun again until you get the muzzle fixed. A good gunsmith can probably fix it and add a muzzle brake. ;)

as much of a high point hater as I have been in the past, I can say that if they made them in hi-cap models then I would snag one up as a truck gun.

Try this Bushnell Trophy Red/Green Dot... An ACOG look-a-like for about $200.

Info from Hi-Point Forum site

Came across topic on Hi-Point forum for the new style 9mm carbine stock. $40 for new stock, send gun in and they will install for $60. New stocks improve looks but with receiver bolt still on left, just don't know if it's a priced I'd pay that's a little less than half of the price I paid for the rifle new. I haven't had a chance to try new hi-cap magizine. I'd rather put the money towards another AK variant or maybe a Draco pistol, they're going down in price, RoMaks right at under $400 and Draco around $369. My ammo stash is 7.62 and 9mm 1500 rnds. each caliber, bought when ammo was cheap. Need to stock up on 22LR and a variety 12 gauge load shells.

I had a heavier 9mm Marlin Camp Carbine. 9mm in a rifle has a suprising amount of recoil if you have never fired one before. Not painful, of course, it's just the nature of the beast.

It's a blowback design and has more recoil than you'd expect. Mine's been back to the factory three times now, but finally seems to work properly. I find it more ergonomic than the KelTec I tried a while back.

I rotated the front sight down, dremeled a slot in it so the 'heat shield' would still fit and put a large red dot on it. Fun plinker, works well with my reloads.

Collector48, I have almost the same setup, I am considering buying the match UTG rear peep sight and replacing the factory one, I think it will still cowitness. I had to grind down the front end of the factory sight to get my Tasco red/green to fit. Part of the factory rear sight is actually under the red dot which I also had to grind on some, but everthing fits very good, it worked out well.

I also modified the factory sight cage to clear the red dot, but did not have to modify the red dot, I guess it sits a little higher than Panoz's. Since I had the cage off I decided to drill out some holes through the side, just because. I also coated it, along with the the receiver cover and muzzle brake with hi temp engine paint and baked everything in my home built oven. I wish hi point would do something about the "cheap" looking finish on the metal parts. Other than that, they are a great little carbine, accurate and trouble free so far. I also have the 995 classic, which I coated the receiver with a wrinkle finish coating and it has proven to be very durable and as accurate as its new sister

I just came up with a simple mod using the 995 classic heat shield on the TS.

This project took about 1 hr total using a metal cut off wheel on an angle grinder, grinding wheel, a dremel and small hammer. I cut down the 995 classic heat shield and left some room for fitting. I formed two tabs for locking into the foreend.

I then test fit to see how much material I wanted to grind off, then shaped the two tabs.

I then put two narrow slots into the foreend of the stock after test fitting and marking where the tabs would insert. The slots actually are about 3/8 inches into the foreend and ended up going all the way through (which makes no difference, it actually made it easier for a reference point)

DSC04166.jpg

I also slightly bent in or crimped the heat shield so that it press fit onto the barrel and also provides additional stability. Then loosen the front sight and pull out slightly, fit the two rear tabs into the slots (you want to slowly take material off the tabs so the fit is nice and tight against the front sight), press fit onto the barrel and using the original single tab that fits under the front sight replace the front sight and tighten set screws, viola you have now made a mock heat shield (this is a mostly cosmetic modification because the heat shield is in contact with the barrel and therefore will conduct the heat of the barrel).

I still need to clean up some of the plastic shavings 8)

I think it adds a bit of flair to the front end without having to spend $40 on a shroud 8) You could make two shorty heat shields from one classic shroud if you mess up on your first attempt.

HAPPY MODDING!

Oh, I also added some Ape grip to the buttstock for a more comfortable cheek weld :D

Yes, get the TS, for the money is has several improvements. My classic is now dressed in an ATI stock, I never liked the older classic stock, it fells very cheap compared to the ATI or the new stock.

Panoz, I like that, looks good. Did you get a heat shield from hi point or use the one from the classic. I want to do it on my TS......

New pics

I ordered a bipod from ctd
it should complete this little carbine :D
