I bought myself a new toy. :)

A brand new Browning Hi Power MKIII in 9mm.

I noticed that there is a magazine disconnect. I don't remember an older one that a freind had years ago with this feature. Is this new? The 1911's have been fine without this feature. Why did they have to go and do that? A total waste of effort if you ask me. I guess they figured there's no decocker so they might as well not let it fire with a round in the chamber and no magazine.

The magazine disconnect is an original design feature and was put there in order to compete for the French Army contract that the original Hi-Power was being designed for.

Some WWII German-produced Hi-Powers were built without the disconnect and many people remove the disconnect as it helps get a little better trigger and is easy to do at home (although on the new MkIIIs that pin can be tough to drive out).
