As has been pointed out, the Model 28 is identical to the 27 except for finish and bbl length options. I have both and they shoot equally well. Love the big N frames!

Jonsey, you did very well with both the price and revolver. Model 28's are going up in price at a quick pace.

I'm with Jonesy814 on this one; that Model 28 has been out of the line-up for way too long, first in your buddy's closet and now in your gun safe (presumably). To me it would be like having a vintage Mustang or Camaro in the garage and never driving it.
Years ago I had a custom Colt Combat Commander that was to me at the time too beautiful to shoot, so I never did. Came a time when I needed cash and sold it to a friend of mine with the stipulation that I had the right of first refusal if he ever decided to sell it (this was his idea, not mine). He wasn't concerned at all about shooting it and found that it was accurate as a Gold Cup. Eventually I found the right combination of guns to trade for to get my Combat Commander back. Since then there have been no guns in my collection that were too "nice" not to shoot them.

Here is one I bought a few years ago for $550. The guy selling it said he got it from a retired CHP officer.
It came with Pachmayrs and the original grips were long gone.
I put a set of Ahrends cocobolo grips on it.
This gun sure has a nice trigger and is quite accurate. It does have holster wear.

A 28 is rising rapidly up my "next guns to get list". Once my finances get straightened out, I will start looking. 2017 looks like it will be a good year.

The Ahrends cocobolo grips are no longer available due to the tree being put on the endangered list. I suspect "old" cocobolo grips for the N frames will bring some decent money in the future. Well beyond that, it is a beautiful wood.

I've owned a couple/three 28's over the years, but sold them off for one reason or another. I've thought about getting another one, but just never have. The closest I've got now is a post-war 38/44 Heavy Duty.

Lord how I wish I still had mine, that thing would kill hogs like knife going through butter , I even took a short range (34 yard) shot and took a small white tail buck with it. Truly a "do it all" man's gun.
