Modern revolvers are not old fashioned. THIS is "old fashioned!"

This is an older S&W First Mdl. Navy .44 Russian Caliber. These 4" Nickle top breaks were the first S&W DA .44 Cal. handguns. This one was shipped in 1885.
This gun is very accurate. It came from the "Hole in The Wall", country of Central Wyoming. :)

That is identical to the one I traded for in 1970. It belonged to a friend's grandfather who was a Special Policeman in San Francisco in the early 1900s. You are right about the accuracy.

Howdy Again

Are we talking 'old fashioned'?

Smith and Wesson New Model #3, 44 Russian, made 1882, refinished 1965.

Merwin Hulbert Pocket Army, 44-40, made sometime between 1881-1883.

Those are classic handguns. The early S&W and Merwin & Hulberts are beautiful by design and function. Thanks for posting those rare beauties.

No sense in getting worked up in semantics in this case. Whether they're current production or 100yrs old, it's a fact revolvers became popular for a specific application, after which, the advent of the bottom feeder drove the revolver into obsolescence for said application. In today's world, it's almost impossible to envision how a single action revolver could work for a law enforcement officer, but a DA revolver is still a reasonable option. Is a bottom feeder better for the task? Yup.

An abacus will still work for many mathematical functions just as well as it ever has - an iphone does more and is a lot smaller and a lot more versatile though. Leverguns and revolvers still work fine for many applications too. It's pretty fair to say carrying a revolver is old fashioned though.

Said as a guy who hunts every winter with leverguns (and revolvers), and regularly carries a DA revolver - even an SA revolver for SD. And my wife has a DA SP101 on her nightstand.
Actually until recently a revolver was the safest and provided the most protection for our service members than an auto. See both had to have an empty chamber under the firing pin. to draw and shoot an auto took one heck of a ballet to get it all accomplished. with the six shooter draw and pull the trigger.

So don't count the revolver out. and if you're wondering, the agency I work for requires us to carry our duty side arms in just the same manner as the Army used to

I like revolvers more than semi autos, that being said I have 4 revolvers and 9 semis. I wanted to get a few more "high capacity" guns before the election.

Just goes to show that even new shooters can learn old tricks. :)
Nice budding collection you have there BW.

The reason revolver are so great is that they're old and obsolete. And they shoot much larger projectiles.
