Historic bolt action rifle ID

Hi! Looking for help identifying another one - this one a bolt action! Thanks in advance

Looks Japanese.

Definitely Japanese - apparently a late-wartime type 99, though it could be a training rifle. If there are any legible markings on the top of the receiver ring, they would help in making full identification.

Japanese 7.7mm x 58mm Arisaka Type 99 produced at Nagoya Arsenal.

Looks like late war production, Mum has been defaced, missing its dust cover, never had antiaircraft sight or monopod.

Probably not the original bolt- that one is off an earlier gun.
Should be inspected by a competent gunsmith before any attempt to shoot.

In addition to headspace issues, these can get dangerously severe rust pitting under the wood.
