HK compact .40

I just put a .40 HK compact with a stainless slide on lay away; I'm planning on picking it up when the tax money rolls in.

A few questions

How is HK on warranty service? The website was a little vague...

IIRC, HK uses a metal mag release? Which I always thought of as a shortcoming on Glock’s, this gun will be replacing a G17.

Is the chamber on the HK fully supported? I doubt it would be an issue, but I've heard (yeah, yeah) that the Glock .40's would KB more often than others due to an unsupported chamber

Any opinions would be welcome, as this is my first HK.

Welcome to the club! you are now a tacticla poser, like the rest of us. at least thats what some of them thar 1911 folks will call ya just kiddin' all.

anyway, the chamber is fully supported. while the .40 does not have a +P or +P+ designation, there are some pretty potent rounds out there. all of them will be safe to shoot in your H&K. they are built to take the punishment of high pressure loads.

the warranty service is a little slow but, but overall gets a thumbs up from me. i've sent mine back for a firing pin repair after i broke it from dry firing (careful in that departmen, use snap caps). they didn't ask for a receipt or a warranty card or anything. as a matter of fact, i still have the blank warranty card in the case. it took about 3 weeks and all was well. they also sent me a couple more c-clips that hold the captive recoil spring on the guide free of charge. they even offered to send me some front sights for free when i was having trouble locating a shorter one.

your new gun will bring many smiles to your face. in this person's ever-so-humble-yet-seemingly-always-correct opinion, you bought the best of the best. shooting it will get addictive. stock up on ammo when its on sale.

I own a USPc .40, .45 and a P7M8

1. Warranty service is normally good if you're the original owner, but its rare to use because the guns don't make a habit of breaking. I've never sent one in.

2. The mag releases are metal reinforced plastic, as is the trigger, very robust and easy to grab. NOT a shortcoming.....

3. Yes, the cartridge is fully enclosed within the chamber. The barrel/chamber is made of a very tough alloy. I've heard you can clear a squib round by simply firing another cartridge and still have a servicable firearm. Not recommended obviously.

You're going to like the USPc. DA trigger isn't so hot, but its not really a target pistol.

I've had experience with H&K's customer service.

I've dealt with them on three separate occasions. I'd grade them an 'A' based on my experiences. Possibly drop it to an 'A-' for not sounding as cheerful as they could have been on the phone.

They solved every problem I had, and did so quickly.

1st, congrats on your new HK! You've made a fine choice
As Skunkabilly says, the HK mag release rocks. It is more intuitive to use than any other!
As for customer service...I've only had occassion to use them a few times & I'd rate them very good

Our agency issues the USPc.40LEM to agents. I've never heard of ANY problems with them. I can't say that about the Berettas...

I can't comment on H&K's warranty service, as I've never had to use it!

I've had my USP40 compcat for over two years and there have been ZERO problems from day one and after several thousand rounds.

The magazine release is excellent (and ambidextrous for the lefties)

Chamber is also fully supported.
