Do I need something smaller? I usually have a jacket on, so I am more concerned with ergonomics such as weight, bulk etc. I have an old 645 smith that was my carry gun and it was just too big, heavy and unwieldy.

Thanks

No. As long as you can fit it into your wardrobe and life style. It isn't very "big" but is is fatter than some other pistol types. The best advice you'll get is to get a good belt and holster. These will go the farthest in making daily carry comfortable and concealable.

Good Holster! Good Belt! Clothing to fit appropriately for IWB holsters, and it will not be an issue!

Well, I cannot comment on the compact - I don't have one. BUT, my regular carry is the USP45 full size, and I carry without any problems. It just took me a while to find a setup that works....

I have a 2 inch nylon belt (a 72" luggage strap from walmart, cut a bit short) that holds a holster and a double mag pouch. A pair of perry suspenders (the kind that hooks to the belt) holds the belt/gun/mags up (I have to wear the belt loose, because I'm not supposed to wear belts at all - I have kidney stone problems). That all gets put on while I'm in t-shirt and tidy-whities. Then shirt and pants (again with suspenders), shirt tucked in to conceal top of pistol. I have a reversable left/right hand holster, so the gun can go on right hip or just to the right of the small of my back. Works just as well with shorts and a loose pull over shirt...

No, it is manageable. Not nearly so carry-able as a Kel-tec though. Of course, Kel-tec has other disadvantages.

Can't beat the ergonomics and reliability.

the usp compact 45 is about the size of a 1911 commander...only fatter. i never could get used to carrying mine. its a great pistol, just not compact enough for IWB carry for me. i never tried owb...

I carry my Glock 36 OWB all the time.

I just got a new HK USPC .45 and plan on carrying it. The two guns are pretty much the same size and nearly identical in weight.

I don't have my holster yet, but have ordered a Fist #8 (same holster I use for my G36).

Anyway, I'd say it is a fine size for concealed carry. But I'm anxious to try it myself!

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

My friend will occasionally carry his full size Glock and can hide that thing surprisingly well. Its all about how you do it.
