Hi all,

I just picked this rifle a few days ago. I am very excited about it. The rifle was made in 1999 and it appears to be very lightly used.

I just ordered a bottom picatinny rail and a new Ops 2 top rail. I also ordered a Vortex PST 4 - 16x50 scope and Night force Ultra light rings.

I have no immediate desire to convert the rifle to a G36. I may have it dyed black though.

This is what she looks like now.

My brother has one and it is a very, very accurate rifle. The only thing I really can't stand is the use of the single stack proprietary mags. While it can be converted to use AR mags it is rather cost prohibitive. Other than that it is a great rifle.

The single stack mags bother me BUT it is one of the most inherently accurate 223 platforms I own. They are shockingly good shooters.

Ergonomics aren't bad either. Very light and very well balanced.

Yeah, cheap scope on mine but it came with the gun when I bought it used, works good enough.

Wish there were more aftermarket pieces, and also wish the STANAG mag well conversion didn't require cutting on the receiver. I've been going back and forth about converting it for awhile now, but figured as good as it shoots, 10 rounds is good enough. :)

Trent,

You can get aftermarket 20 round magazines. I plan to use this as a varmint / target rifle. I am happy with stock 10 round mags. I can't wait to shoot the rifle. I will post more pictures once the scope is mounted!

The single stack mags don't bother me at all. This isn't an AR type rifle. Ten will do. My SL8-6 is just fine as it is. BTW, the ProMag 20 rounders have been perfectly reliable but they extend so far down below that shooting from certain positions becomes impossible.

This rifle often gets a bad rap but HK only did what they had to do to get it into the country. I acquired mine because I wanted an SL8 and not a converted G36 look-alike.

To the OP, if you do decide to dye yours (I wouldn't) there is lots of good info at the HKPRO forum. The secret as I recall is to mix some green with the black dye.

You'll enjoy it for sure cbmax. Mine shoots sub 1 MOA with Federal xm855 bulk 62gr. Never really worked up a load for it but I'm sure it could get down to half MOA if I worked at it a little.

When I first picked it up and handled it, it felt a little "blocky".

When I first went out and shot it, I forgot all about that. :)

Hi,

The postman delivered my Ops2 top rail and a picatinny bottom rail today. Here they are installed on the rifle. By next weekend I should have the scope mounted.

That's some serious wisdom, right there. Too bad a manufacturer didn't think of it while the rifle was in production. I could see a 50-round drum working well.

had one just like that. definitely a great shooting gun. careful dying that. when they first came out lots of people did and some of them came out looking horrible. splotchy and uneven. i don't recall what the difference was in the methods but research it well

Hi All,

I got my scope in this week. Here is my rifle with the new scope, bottom rail and bi pod! Scope is a Vortex PST 4-16X50 in MOA. Hope to shoot it tomorrow.
