Hi to all!

Back to ask another "which gun" Q! ;D

Here's something for the HK Fans and the 1911 types. I have a choice between the HK Tactical (.45) or a Para ord 16.40 (40 cal). What gun would you guys choose and why?

I currently shoot production class with a S&W 910... (yeah, it works now! no FTF, FTE, FT fire etc. etc. Wolf springs at 17# did wonders! he he

I originally wanted to buy the tactical but.. after some chats with the guys who run modified div. in IPSC, they all recommend the Para Ord or an STI. Suffice to say I'm not gonna dosh on an STI yet, put the para is emminiently modifieable for IPSC type comp and still affordable. Its mainly gonna be for standard division competition.

Anyone with experience on the tactical and the 16.40?
All comments appreciated. I really like the HK tactical but having second thoughts for the 16.40 ltd.

Regards,

I once had a P16-40...even had some 16 round mags to go w/ it. But, I sold it. I'm not much of a fan of the 40 S&W round. The gun itself was reasonably accurate & reliable.
As for the HK Tac...I really like the caliber & I'm a big fan of the USP line in general (currently have 4 USPs in diff't calibers & sizes). You can't beat the dependability, accuracy & durability.

I bought my P16.40 LTD several years ago and never had any problems with it.

While I only use it for informal target shooting and home defense, have never had a FTF or any other type of glitch.

I've always used Remington's 155 gr. JHP ammo for home defense and with Paras optional basepad you can end up with 19 rounds in the gun.

I really like the gun. Enough to go out and buy a Para P14.45 LTD just to keep it company.:D

Safe shooting.

It seems a weird comparison. Doesn't a 16.40 combare closer to a standard USP .40 with hicaps? Either way, the USP is likely a less troublesome shooter.

Personally, I think the Tac is mostly bells and whistles. It's a very expensive USP with a couple drop in add ons. A good gun if you are going to buy a suppressor, but otherwise those huge sights and longer barrel don't do much but make the gun "cool". I would be much more inclined to get a Bruce Gray trigger job on a standard USP and pocket the rest of the money.

Have you considered the USP Elite or Expert? Better gaming guns than the Tac.

Hi all. and thanks for the responses.

The tactical is about 400$ more than the 16.40. However, the expert is about 1000 $ more than the 16.40. I can afford to take the 400$ but another 1000$ is STI open class div. upgrade time already :p

(I live in a place where guns are twice what they cost in the states!) :banghead: :cuss: :fire:

Other than that, 16 rds of 40 cal vs 12 rds of 45 cal is the main difference meaning more reloads required for the tactical... time disadvantage...

but, I really think the HK is cool! And I can get a
suppressor for it to! if I could only buy them both!

Would it be a correct statement to stay that out of the box, a HK would be more accurate and reliable than a para? not to mention easier to maintain?

IMHO, I seriously doubt the HK is MORE accurate than the p-16.40 ltd wich has a match grade barrel and adjustable sights. Personally I dont care much for the .40's sharp, snappy recoil, but the p-14.45 ltd is the right gun for me. Hard to beat 14+1 .45 ACP's plus another mag with 14 .45's ready to go.... hasn't failed me yet.The only downer yet, being the blueing fading on the reciever.. but that's just cosmetics... gonna put some grip-tape on there anyhow..

for home defence and competition action, I'd go for the para... for military(mud, sand and little maintainance) action, I'd have another look at the HK...

Have a good one....

Well, here's another opinion.

With the money you save getting the Para 16 in .40cal, you can easily get another barrel fitted to it in 10mm Auto, thereby getting 2 guns in 1 by means of a simple barrel swap. (Some simply have a competent pistolsmith ream their Para .40 barrels to 10mm specs). The hi-cap Para .40 mags will hold and reliably feed both the .40S&W and 10mm cartridges, which is why the Para .40s are so popular for this "conversion" with 10mm fans.

"The tactical is about 400$ more than the 16.40. However, the expert is about 1000 $ more than the 16.40."

This higher price differential is apparently accounted for by the infusion of special Teutonic pixie dust into HK's polymer before factory technicians commence the cooling process. :scrutiny: This is why, as a completed product, German polymer guns cost lots more than, say, Austrian polymer guns, even though the former realizes no evident performance benefits over the latter.

" -- it's in a class all by itself."

Not really. There's Beemers, Mercedes, and Lexis' in there too. :D

' might wanna wait for BUL M5...

..Charles Daly imports them :). I think they will start shipping it by May.
It takes Para hi-cap mags, its lighter than Para and less expensive than the USP (<$800?). Its a 1911 derivative, so it can be customized.
