HK USP 40 whats your review??

So i had the oportunity to trade a Sig P6 plus 100 bucks for a HK USP .40 full size and i took it but, i have yet to shoot the HK. I had never really handled a HK because of the price tag. most guns i own are 400 bucks or under.

So I would like to know what you think about the HK USP .40. Is it a good gun? What is the value of the gun? ( I would say its in very good condition, no cosmetic problems maybe has had 1000 rounds through it made in 94) And how does it compare to other HK models?

They are good guns, accurate and reliable - a bit big for some folks. Used ones run 500-600 bucks.

It's a very good gun for a .40. Recoil is less than a comparable Glock 22 and they are highly reliable. I never got the target accuracy I had hoped for, the .45 version was more accurate for me, but it shot respectably at 25 yards. It shot very well at speed though. It whips back into sight alignment very nicely for fast follow up shots.
The only other .40 that I thought was as good was the P226 ST with the heavy stainless frame.
You get what you pay for. You don't see complaint threads about reliability with the USP like you do with lower priced .40's.

I have one and like it. I agree with all of the remarks made by the previous posters, including the Hk being "overpriced" one.

I'd say you got a pretty good deal. HK USPs are accurate and reliable, and overall good guns. They are pretty expensive new, but I think in the used market they come down to something approaching a normal price. Mags may be more expensive than a Sig's would be though.

I personally think the Sig DA trigger is better than HK's, but that's more preference than fact. The new HKs (a la P30) are more ergonomic, but there is nothing wrong with the USP.

HKs are great quality guns!! ....the USP is the only one i dislike though...it just doesnt feel good in the hand...i wear 2XL gloves and i feel like im holding a cinder block when i hold the USP....its like it was designed for a gorilla to use, i dont see how people shoot them

I haven't done much research on what these are going for, but I would say an acceptable price would be $500-$600 for just the gun. Obviously extras like mags, night sights, and wear would change the price a bit.

Personally I'd try to stay in the low $500s because if I'm going to get higher than that, I'd rather buy a gently used Sig. They just seem to fit me better.

The slide lock is that far forward because HK was toying around with building a 1911 and ending up with the USP.

I paid 375 for my P6 that i traded and gave the guy another 100 bucks on top of that so basically i got it for 475 I thought it was a pretty good deal and it came with 2 13 round mags

$475 for a good condition USP is a great deal. USP is one of the greatest handguns of all time and as reliable as they come. In addition to reliable they have an incredibly tough finish. The main dowsides though are the propietary accessory rail and fixed grip size. There are however adapter rails available.

It's a USP, of course it's good.

You got a great deal, considering it is a eight hundred dollar gun.

I've had one since 1996 or so. Carried it on duty.

The one I have is the 'variant 1', so it has a cocked and locked over-ride. I carried it hammer down for management, but would use it cocked and locked should the occasion arise (never did, happily). Qualified with it several times; never had a failure and it always shot a perfect score.

I agree with tbutera2112, the grip is wide and feels like a furring strip to me. However, when cocked and locked, I can get enough grip on it to shoot it properly.

I like the thing - other than my hand is just a bit small (short fingers) for it.

that's a pretty good deal you've got. I really dont like the full size USP though, it's way too big for the average hand, the bore axis is also too high making recoil alot more harsh than it should be (my opinion anyway)

the compact USP though are all pretty nice, reduction in grip size being one of the reason

Good gun, mine went untold thousand of rounds and never malfunctioned, guy who bought it has over 5k more on it, no malfunctions

They are chunky, recoil isnt bad but for some reason it has a real pronounced muzzle flip in .40, like none ive ever felt on a .40, trigger isnt great but is manageable

The proprietary rail isn't a problem if you buy the M2 light.

I love the USP series, but as others have noted they are overpriced when new. Used, there are lots of good deals out there.

Bought one new several years ago, still have it but it's the wife's now. Great gun. Oddly easy to conceal considering it's dimensions.
