Arch, while I dont personally use LS in 45 one of my good friends does and I've shot his loads on a few occasions. They shot well for me and were fairly clean! He uses 200gr xtp's and a hardcast 230gr lrn. I know his charge for each is the hodgden max. I didnt notice any unburned powder or the like. Sorry I don't have the specifics:(

Are you guys really getting good results from Longshot in the 45 Auto? I just find that hard to believe because IMO it's way too slow for that application.

I don't even like HS-6 in the 45 Auto which is faster. The slowest powder I will use in the 45 Auto is AA#5 but that's me. That cartridge is a low pressure round and Longshot is practically a magnum class powder.

What bullet are you using? Accuracy? Clean? Consistency? Are your loads compressed?
Enlighten me, please!
AA,

MY brother and I tested it out a few years ago when we were running some 10mm loads with LS, and we used load book recommended charges. My logs show that we got the best accuracy from a G21 with just over 7 gr. using 230 gr. projectiles (XTP & FMJ) at the time.

I'll always run this load if I am loading out 10mm on the 550, since the LPP punch is already there.

Great results.

Longshot is one of my favorites, I use it in the .40 and .45 Super, even the .45 Colt, and have had good results in the 9mm and 10mm too, although I don't load those any longer.

In the .40 it does well for every bullet weight except the 200's, 800x is better for those. One of my favorite .40 loads shoots a 180gr JHP at almost 1,200 fps from my 4" G23, while another can clear a 180gr JHP from 6" G24 at 1,400 fps (one reason I no longer load for the 10mm).

The .45 Super because it's a higher pressure round works great with Longshot, although it's not quite as capable as 800x is in the SUPER, it does well in it's own right and delivers some great accuracy with 250gr XTP's running around 1,200 fps.

It seemed ok for me in .45 once I got towards the high end of the charge weight, but then the loads were stouter than I prefer.
I would say ok, not good or great, but thats me.
Used it in .45 because
1. Hodgdon listed loads for it.
2. It was all I had at the time :(

OK everybody can laugh about the stouter than I prefer but I am shooting holes in paper and it does not know the difference. :p

Longshot Pictures

Here are some pics, not the best but maybe they will be helpful.

PS the Longshot must be better because it is shiner....

Replaced second picture. Added H4831 for comparsion.
(4831 grains want to roll around and comingle, tried to put a Loudshot, lonshot grain in the 4756 and a 4756 in the longshot.
The Longshot is smaller than Unique and does seem to meter better.

Thx dude! I wonder why Unique is challenging to meter. May be the pic but it looks like the granules are fairly smallish. Ive never had any though, or seen it up close and personal.

I would say Unique and Longshot meter ok thru my Lee Pro Disk say + or - .15 (Longshot is better than Unique here) most of the time just not as well as others. They don't like the adjustable charge bar at all at 9mm charges. Tapping the hopper seems to help.

Great picture of Longshot (and other powders)

Unique grains are huge compared to Bullseye.
Off thread but Can anyone do a Unique/700x/800x (800 cornflakes) picture?
