I have a 870 Police that came with synthetic stocks. I bought wood stocks for it but they don't feel any better.
So, what are your opinions of the Hogue overmold stocks?
(chose to mention the 12" LOP since I heard a comment that the fullsize stock is a bit long)

The problem with the original stocks is the grip is so close to horizontal that I seem to pull the trigger "up" rather than "straight back". I am hoping that the Hogue grip (part of the stock) is more vertical...my other thought was trying a vertical grip stock from Speedfeed, but I don't really want a pistol grip.

Thanks for you help.

The Hogue overmolded stock are the best on the market IMO. I use them on my HD 870. The large pad really soaks up the recoil and the rubberized coating makes the gun easier to hold on to.

Mine is the full-sized although compared to other stocks it's quite short at 13-3/4" from the trigger to the middle of the butt pad. I'm 6' 1" and shoot much longer stocks for my hunting and target guns but like reduced length for HD.

I've tried the 12" stock and hated it. It didn't mount to the shoulder well and jammed my thumb into my face under recoil. YMMV.

I switched my factory stock on my 870HD for the 12" Hogue. It is one of the best stocks aftermarket stocks I've tried. It works really well for me because I suffer from "T-Rex Arms", and its almost the same LOP as my AR-15's M4 stock. The only bad thing is the recoil pad is a PITA to install.

ETA: If the stock is too short a slip-on, small size, Limbsaver recoil pad will fit the Hogue. It will reduce the recoil even more, and leave you with a 13" LOP.

Exactly! The small size limbsaver slip on gives you 13" with a BIG SOFT recoil surface. You might want to wrap the limbsaver with some OD '100mph' tape to hold it to the stock and it stiffens the Limbsaver so it doesn't move side to side. Very 'tactical ' looking!
The 12" stock will sock your cheek if you are over about 5'6" and not wearing body armor, for which it was designed. It is VERY quick indoors however, 13" is ideal for tactical use for most shooters too bad Hogue doesn't offer it on their great stocks!
