I'm looking for a well-made, leather (preferably lined), "pancake" style holster with a thumb-break fastener for my 2" barreled, Model 12 revolver. I've seen plenty of holsters in this configuration made for K-frames that have 2 1/2" and 3" barrels (I have a couple myself) but none so far made specifically for a 2" barrel. I plan to carry this gun concealed and I want as little leather peeking out as possible. Thanks.

DeSantis Speed Scabbard. They make it with and without a thumb break.

I should have made my post more clear in that I'm not inclined to get this holster from a custom maker due to money and time constraints-but I will if I have to. I hope I don't have to.

CPO15, I looked at the Lobo Gunleather link you provided and, even with the lining and thumb-break options, the products seem reasonably priced. I will make specific inquiries to his site.

JTQ, I looked at the Mitch Rosen link you provided but there was no mention of a thumb-break strap option for the model 5JR. Does this feature need to be custom ordered I wonder? I plan on contacting his web site to learn more.

GRIZ22, I've been looking at the DeSantis "Speed Scabbard" (style 01) and it seems to be exactly what I want (especially with the lined option), along with the simarily designed Galco "Fletch" holster (unfortunately for me, the lined version of this model-the "FX", is only made for pistols as opposed to revolvers). The problem, of course, is trying to find a specific model from any holster maker at the local gun shop or even from the large mail order companies. I'm going to try e-mailing both companies to see if I can buy directly from them but I'd like to pay a "street" price instead of msrp-not bloody likely if I order direct from the company.

I would like to thank all for their contributions to my thread and any other suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

The thumb break model is listed in the "Express Line" section. It is model #5JR TB-EXP. It sells for $85.

I will second the Mitch Rosen thumb break holster. I had one for several years and loved it as it carried tight to the body and the pistol was secure even without the thumb break.
The only care it needed was a little leather conditioner about twice a year to keep the scuffs away.

It seems like you should be able to simply pocket carry the J frame. I can get a Ruger P95 in the pocket of most of my pants. I carry a Charter Mag Pug all the time in my pocket. The J frames I have seen are smaller than my Charter.

You might like a Blackhawk pancake holster. I have a nylon pancake holster for my P95. It works very well. I don't see the Blackhawk nylon holsters on their site any more. They have leather holsters for around $60.

I know you said you'd prefer something off-the-shelf, but if that doesn't work out, consider Fist holsters. They'll make you a custom one, but at prices very comparable to what a nice off-the-shelf leather holster would run you. Just something to consider as a back-up plan in case you can't find something ready-made.

For a pancake, I really like the El Paso Saddlery #77 Tortilla and #88 Street Combat. That said, I've also talked to Rob at Simply Rugged about doing me one in black elephant but may order from Big Rob's Gunleather instead. Yes, I'd rather buy a pancake and pants belt from somebody else than have to hand stitch all the way around a 46" belt. :p

I carry my Ruger Speed Six in the 01 holster. I love it. I have been using their speed scabbard line almost exclusively for years and have never had a problem with revolvers, autos, large and small.
To find an online retailer for the model you want, look up the model on the Desantis websiten and then copy the product code and paste into Google. Do a search for the exact product code. I'd bet you get a hit from Midway and/or Optics Planet.
