Holster recommendation for 629 classic 5 inch?

Am looking at El Paso saddlery: A Patton, Tom Three persons or a thumbbreak model. Want leather. Not trying to conceal. Will wear as sidearm while hunting Alaska. Think I like the zero cant. Anyone have one of these? Any recommendations?

Duck- I'm looking for a leather holster for carrying my Taurus revolver as a side while hunting. I like the look of the El Paso products and the prices appear to be reasonable. I'm wondering how you narrowed down to the options you listed. I've been struggling with the different choices. I know its personal preference but I'm not sure what model would be most comfortable for all day carry. I was leaning toward a model that could be worn strong or cross, just so I had some flexibility.

I know that you want leather but may I at least suggest that you take a look at a Blade-Tech kydex hip holster with the Tec-Lok belt attachment.
I have been using one of these for about five years now for my 5" 629 and I am completely satisfied with the performance.
Alaska weather is super hard on leather, the Kydex will stand up to the harsh conditions.
It is lightweight, impervious to wet and fluctuatiing temperature extremes and when adjusted properly the holster is comfortable and completely secure in keeping the revolver in place.
At about $75.00 the holster is affordable too.

Salthouse - I like the patton holster because the pistol will ride lower with it, which I think will make for an easier withdrawal than having to scrunch my elbow way up for one that rides high on the belt. The thumbreak has a leather covering over the hammer, which I like because I darn near ruined a leupold scope on a rifle years ago when I went to sling arms and found out that the scope eyepeice can collide with the pistol hammer if the hammer is exposed and strongside carried. The higher ride of the three person's and thumbreak seem like they'd be more conducive to allowing you to sit occassionally without pressing against the ground and hitching your belt up uncomfortably. Maybe I need to look hard at a crossdraw. That would solve the eyepeice problem I had with my rifle when at sling arms, and with a high ride and forward cant, would keep the pistol form pressing into the ground. I just never carried crossdraw style and want to be sure I like it before I throw $80 at leather. What crossdraws are you looking at? Have you ever carried that way?

I'm doing a hunt in Idaho this fall, and purchased an EL Paso Saddlery Tanker's holster for my 629. I wasn't crazy about putting a lot of gear on my waist, and a true shoulder holster tucks the gun way under my arm beneath my clothes. The tanker puts it off center of my chest, and not under my arm. Can still shoulder a rifle.

Even though not concealing, still look at #77 Tortilla. Carries out of the way , yet easier to draw from than other "really high" holsters. The origional Roy Baker pancake came with 3 slots to allow crossdraw ,or strieght up & down, with same holster. Many companies offer 3 slot holsters, but most of them ride higher, while ElPaso keeps close to origional ride and angle. Simply Rugged in Alaska offers a copy of origional, in addition to his own vatiations on theme. As far as interfence with rifle, hasn't been a problem, since I usually carry slung rifle on off shoulder, and pistol on usual hip.

I considered the chest holster rig. Have one for a 45 and like it, but could picture it bouncing against my binoculars while hiking.

Duck- I was carrying my 45 auto in a cheap nylon holster. Crossdraw seemed to keep it out of the way while being very accessible. I talked to the guys at El Paso, who seemed to be very helpful, and ended up ordering a Tom Threeperson in crossdraw. I spend a lot of time riding and getting on/off my atv during hunting season, it was suggested to me that the Tom Threeperson would be more comfortable. I guess I'll find out in six weeks.
