I've looked at this a few times, what went wrong?

You can hear the round hit steel. Probably beat up steel that is not flat any more.

That's one lucky dude! Good thing it bounced off of the ground in front of him instead of landing on his head directly.

I think it's pretty amazing the bullet came back along the same path. What range was he shooting at? Double that, throw in a deformed bullet and a ground hit and it still hit a human head. A very accurate rifle.

I think that may have been the jacketing flying back at him. Lucky SOB!

my guess is he was shooting at one of the old cast-iron bathtubs, you can get them pretty cheap at junk yards, but they are curved and a VERY bad thing to shoot at.

This video has been a round for awhile. I guess that's what you get for shooting 100 yard targets with a .50 BMG.
