Absolute best home defense gun for stopping power is the 12 gauge shotgun loaded with birdshot. It is a gut ripper at room ranges. Best pistol if you are an enthusiast and are going to practice is a good quality 45ACP automatic. Best, most forgiving and easy to use pistol if you are not going to practice is a 4" barreled 38 Spl. If you are hung up on capacity and will practice once in a while a good 9MM will make you feel safe. Regardless of caliber, get quality, hollowpoint personal defense ammunition and make sure it functions in your pistol..........don't trust your life to generic ball ammunition. Personal choice plays a big part in personal defense weapons for the house and there are a bunch of good ones. All of the pistols you have mentioned will fill the bill if you are comfortable and competent with them.

Agreed, but its effectiveness increases radically with regular practice. Someone who only has a Model 10 S&W, and practices regularly with it, is a very deadly man when he needs to be. The 158 grain SWC HP +p is as effective at fight stopping as military hardball .45 ACP from a 1911. Seems counter intuative, but in 30 years of nation-wide law enforcement and federal agent experience with it, this reputation is confirmed many times over.

yea its a beautiful pistol. i haven’t had the chance to shoot one yet, but i handled one awhile ago and it felt great. its definitely my next pistol purchase.
