I know the thread stickies say not to post about home invasions because "in reality it's probably a situation that you are least likely to have to face" but this has happened twice recently in the county north of me:

My only point is, don't believe people when they say they are the police. Use your peep-hole and ask for ID.

Twice in two weeks armed men posing as police have robbed Anderson Valley residents in their homes, Mendocino County Sheriff's authorities reported Wednesday.
The home-invasion robbers knocked on the doors of two isolated homes, said they were police and demanded entry, said Sheriff's Lt. Kurt Smallcomb.
One person was struck by a firearm during an early morning robbery conducted by as many as six intruders, he said. The robbers made off with jewelry, clothing and other items, he said.
The first home invasion robbery was in early January. The second was Sunday, he said.
The targeted homes are between Boonville and Philo, he said.
