I don't remember if I've asked this forum before...

Has anybody made their own DA revolver grips?
SA and 1911 are relatively easy becuse the back sides are just flat, but DA grips are complicated and are made even more difficult if you want to fill in some of the space behind the trigger guard.

From scratch? To save money or to achieve a perfect fit?

I've kicked the idea around, but haven't done anything about it yet.

I figured one of the big hassles in making grips from scratch would be to get the frame-to-grip fit just right, which would take some woodworking tools & skills I don't currently have.

I was mainly interested in adjusting the grip's fit to my hand, so my approach, then, was going to be to start with a set that already fit the gun well, but are too big for my hand, then dremel material away until I was happy with the fit. I have a set of cocobolo grips that already fit the frame very well, look great, but are too big, so they'd be ideal starting material. Maybe not "homemade" in the strictest sense, but hopefully a good solution, nonetheless.

Here's a couple of sets I made from Walnut.
Top S&W is a 5" .44 Spl. 1950 Target.
Bottom S&W is a 6" Model 19.

The other two are homemade from elephant ivory, and Laotian Rosewood a buddy got me a chunk of in Vietnam in 1969.

I must say the inletting gets difficult, and critical very fast on the behind the triggerguard filler type revolver grips.
