This mossberg 590 is 400$. Has a bit of wear/dmg to it. Not sure how i feel sbout that folding stock as it blocks the safety for easy access.. but it does come with the original stoci. But its been drilled with 6 holes ? Not sure what was mounted on that.

The heat shield looks like its squeezed on the end with pliers ? Barrel has a few rust dots on it. And scratchs here and there. Missing its sight bead too so i gatta get a new sight. The rust dots and wcratchs id just repair with a blueing pen and 00 steel whool so not too big of a deal. It just seems like the gun wasnt taken care of too well.. barrel end looks i dunno is the barrel end ok to you ?

What are your thoughts on this ? Pass or ? Unfortunatly i found another one 2 hours away that was amazing with nice upgrades for 450$.. but ny procrastination on going it was sold 4 hours later. Lol

Also i have 80$ of cabelas points.. So this 590 would be 320$ before tax. And id still get 2% back as well

I was wondering that same thing! Maybe that shell holder was there then it was moved to the folding stock when it was added to the shotgun. Not particularly crazy about that folding stock anyways. I would probably take it off and replace it with the regular stock that comes with it. Don't care for the heat shield either; just another questionable "tactical" component I don't need or want on my shotgun. And as you said it looks like whoever owned it previously didn't take very good care of it.

This is my idea of a bit more minimalist shotgun I put together for home defense:

Personally I would pass, I get a bad feeling about it. Not sure why someone drilled holes in the stock or why the front site is gone but many little things tell me it wasn't taken care of.

Yea thats what i was thinking.. barrel inside looks like it wasnt cleaned.. and rust spots on it.. is in my opinion inexcusable. Th3 barrel top looks dmged too.. why is it missing the sigjts.

Oh well.. i think if i pay 340$ lets say.. Ill end up havung to spend hundreds to fix things on it. And ya i dont like the folding stock either.. nire the holes drilled inti the factory one. So id have to buy another stock.

Ah well.. Just itching for a 590.. but ill keep waiting i guess

Meh....that's my honest opinion. I'd pass on that one at that price. For another $129 you can get a new production 590 Retrograde.https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/mossberg-590-retrograde-tactical-shotgun Has wood furniture and a heat shield that is more securely attached. I think the holes in the stock may have been for an adjustable comb maybe, or a saddle shell holder for a lefty shooter. Either way, you'll likely wind up spending more than the difference in price of a new one getting that one the way you want it

Yea im looking at the retro right now. Aparently cabelas must have it somewhere since i can actually add it to my cart. Unlike there others like the mossberg maverick 88 and what not.

I just dunno if i want another wooden stock gun. I want to pimp out the shotgun to have a tactical look if i get the wooden one. I cant do that.. well i can but the wood stocks would be just in storage. And isnt the retro a premium priced one ? HOWEVER i do like wood better than the plastic stocks and slides. All the plastic guns is one thing keeping me from owning anything modern. All my guns are repros or original 1950s and under so far.

Decisions, decisions

PASS----a couple weeks back, I picked up a NIB 9-shot 590 for $419---complete with a heat shield and pistol grip accessory "stock" and I don't think that was the best price out there but cheap enough for me and it was in stock.

Oh we dont have that here. I just ordered the mossberg 590 retro. If i get tired of the wood i can always change it out.. the main thing is having a 590 and not hunting for one in scraps

JMHO- I don't buy project guns, project cars, project motorcycles, or dream
houses. I've already fixed all the rigged
up stuff I ever intend to for the rest of
my short life.

Receiver is aluminum. But most everything on the 590 is an upgrade over the 500. I'm out of the loop on the value of those guns. But it appears to be over priced based on other posts. But if the price were right I'd not let the negatives stop me. And the $80 of Cabelas bucks might make the price right. The 590 is a solid personal defense shotgun. I'd put the original stock on it and sell the folding stock. That would more than cover the cost of replacing the front bead. And you'd do better without that bead than you might think.

I like the 870 considerably better than the 500. But the 590 addresses all of the 500's shortcomings and I'd have to grudgingly admit it is every bit as good as the 870. Although I just like the 870 controls better.

This mossberg 590 is 400$

$ goes in front of number. $400, not 400$.

The dollar sign is placed to the right of the dollar figure. Use a non-breaking space after the dollar figure, and between the dollar sign and the country code: 25,99 $ US.

I thought the 590s had a steel receiver?

590A1 does have a matte black finished aluminum receiver (well mine does anyway). Some will try to tell you it is steel because "my magnet sticks to it". No, it doesn't. it will stick to the pins in the receiver or the steel parts inside the receiver, but it don't stick to the receiver itself. The extra weight comes from the heavy, thick walled barrel. The A1 also has an aluminum trigger group in place of the polymer in the 500/590.

Youre not a jerk.. all my life i always did $400 but on a phone its quicker to type 400 then the $ after.. as the nunbers are right there and to get to the $ symbol you have to hit a button to switch the keyboard.. so when typing fast on a phone i tend to hit whats accessible first to be quick. If that makes sense ?

Anyway. I decided to go with the mossberg 590 retrograde. For $529. Brand new. I have a bunch of used guns. And so far no issues with them shooting. But these 590s used im seeing look too beat up. So i used my $80 in points. And 2% back on my card i got my 590 for 439$ free shipping. And i also got 25$ more in points due to some promotion they are having. So i got it basically for 415$ brand new.

I used my savings and got 175 rounds of # 8 bird shot and 00 buck shot mixed ammo from federal. Thanks all for your opinions. It helps when you hear what others think. I hate the war of two sides in your brain.. yes and no.. I like to hear others opinions instead

I thought the 590s had a steel receiver?

I think the only pump shotgun marketed by Mossberg that had a steel receiver was the Model 3000, made by Howa in Japan originally for Smith & Wesson and sold by Mossberg for a couple of years in the mid-eighties. If there were others, I'd like to hear about them.

Id never done any research on it, and thought the 590s were steel. looks like they arnt from everything I've read now.

I love good deals on guns, but for me, I steer clear of anything that looks like it might have some kitchen table gunsmithing done to it.
It will cost you more in frustration and ruined trips to the woods or shooting ranges most of the time.

Nope. I probably wouldn't buy it if it was $250. Maybe $200 because then it might be worth it to put a lil effort and $ straightening things back out. Around here, even in these time $400 gets you a brand new 500 and $475 gets you a brand new 590, and like others said, not much more than that gets you retro grade. I like the retro and might purchase one soon, I just wish they'd knock a few bucks off and take off the pretty much useless (to me) heat shield.

That's when you're writing in French. The original source for that quote is a Canadian government document. The comma instead of a period between the dollars and cents is a tip-off, as is the fact that we don't use the country code when writing dollar amounts. We know whose dollar we're talking about: ours. ;)

Writing in American English, the dollar sign goes to the left of the numerals, no space between the sign and the numerals, and a period between dollars and cents.

Sorry, another teacher here, not retired yet but hoping to be soon.
