Honest Opinions Wanted: Glock 23

Glock 23 and 27 user here. I carry my 27 more often due to its smaller size. I like how both handle and the accuracy is excellent. The ammo is plentiful.

You cannot go wrong with either pistol. I am not a fan of the 4th Gen grips. Mine are Gen 3 - at least my 23 is.

G27 and G19, here. The G23 is on my short list.

G27 feels a bit more intense than the G19, but it doesn't adversely affect my shooting until fatigue starts setting in after a hundred rounds, or so. I don't have enough mags for that to matter in an SD scenario.

My gen3 Glock 23 was a fantastic pistol. It was one of the few .40S&W guns I really enjoyed shooting. It did a very good job of soaking up the .40's snap and was easy to keep on target. I considered it a "do everything" pistol, which it was....I would still have it if I hadn't decided to consolidate handguns cals. down to 9mm and .45ACP.

I like the 23 it's a good combination of size, caliber and capacity.

However, I carry the 27 most of the time. The 27 is versitle. Maximum concealment in standard from; add a Pearce magazine base plate and for a slight reduction in concealibility I can get my whole hand on it. The 27 is easy to conceal, offers 9 + 1 rounds of 40 and is reliable.

I'm a big fan of the G23. But I have large hands and the grip is just a tiny bit too short and the pre-fab finger grooves are just a tiny big off. It's a nuisance and not a deal breaker. I have been meaning to file them slightly and get a grip/mag extender.

The gun is so good I don't mind though. I'm still fast and accurate with it.

cant go wrong with a G23. i have one and love it.

the prices you are talking about are crazy high. try a PD turn in for 350ish.

summitgunbroker.com is a really good guy and has piles of these for cheap.

I have a lot of time shooting the 2nd Gen Glock 23, I liked it quite a bit and if I see an example for sale when I'm in the market for a new gun I'll pick one up in a heartbeat. Accurate, reliable and there is a large aftermarket accessory and parts industry for anything you might need for them. The 3rd Gen finger grooves on the mid-sized Glocks don't fit my hands, though, so I had to take the 3rd/4th Gen G23/19 option out of the equation for potential purchases for me.

Well, assuming it's not hollow under the finger grooves, one could sand them flat...

Interesting discussion so far. I was searching for my first purchase and a Range Officer where our CC course shot the required rounds loaned me his G23 a month or so later. It wasn't overpowering but snappy. I figured if a .40 was that snappy what was a .45 like? So I ended up buying a Ruger P345 with poly lower and steel slide and the gun fit my hand very well. It is actually less snappy than the G23 while nominally a bit bigger. I conceal carry it in a High Noon Split Decision and have never regretted my decision.

I'm looking to get the gen 4. If anyone knows of a place that would be significantly cheaper once you factor in shipping and transfer fee, then please let me know.

I went back and handled the 23 again today. Still haven't had a chance to shoot it. That should come sometime this week.

My PD carries the 22 and I like it. It's reliable, accurate and light. However, I along with a large number of co-workers carry a XDM when off duty. The XDM manages recoil better for fallow up shots and can throw tighter groups down range. While feel is all personal preference, most of us and everyone I hand the XDM to says it feels more ergonomic and is more comfortable in the hand. After alternating from the XDM to the Glock I can't help but to think the Glock feels kind of bricky if that makes any sense. Like I said though, the feel is all personal preference.

If I were choosing between the 22 and 23 though, I would have to choose the 22.
