Hey all, got a question for you. I have a Kimber Tactical Custom II and run Wilson 47D magazines. Yes, it has an external extractor, no I have had no problems with it yet.
When I am shooting it goes to slide lock at the last round. Slide locked to the rear, cartridge just sitting loose in chamber. Actually noticed it the first time when I ejected the magazine and a 45 round followed it.
I have since replaced the recoil spring and the extractor spring (the extra power one from wolf). It now flings brass to the moon, but still having the same problem. Marked the magazine that it happened with and it happened again.
I think it is a magazine problem, hoping so anyway.
What do you think?
If mag problem, would mccormick power mags be better, or are there other alternatives.
Thanks

Wilson 47Ds are not designed to truly control the round. (Slipery follower with no dimple) Not to mention the tendency to fail at lock back after last round due to the soft follower slipping past the slide stop because of premature wear.
The 1911 platform is designed to have controlled feed from the mag to the ramp, up the breach face under the extractor and grazing the barrel ramp top corner to chamber. The Wilsons are basically just chucking the round up approximately in the area of the chamber. Works for some but not for others. I watched a video of Tripps cutaway gun firing in super slow motion and the rounds in the mag are violently jostled around during recoil and return to battery.
Any mag that isn't designed to have precise control of the round is not going to end up in my range bag.

Yes, it's a magazine issue. Likely a weak spring, but made worse if the follower doesn't have a speed bump on it. If it goes on long enough, you may start finding live rounds among your empty brass, and a gun that seems to go empty one round too early because it kicks the next-to-last round out and feeds the last one.

Alright, guess I will replace the spring with my next wolff order. So which good magazines have the speed bump? Should I go with just Colt mags and forget the rest?
Thanks BTW, maybe getting that one replaced will ease my mind.
