I’ve loved Hoppe’s #9 since I was 4 and helping my grandfather clean his Winchester 21 double after a morning in the field. It’s just so distinctive, and it reminds me of some of the best times in my life. I’m sure there are other cleaners/bore solvents out there now that are better, but I don’t care, I’m brand-loyal to the core.

Recently, I added Renaissance Wax to my panoply of gun emollients and treatments. I got it to preserve and enhance the looks of my blued S&W revolvers and recently acquired Standard Mfng and Colt SAAs. Man, what great times - a day at the range with 250 grain .45 Colt reloads, followed by a Hoppe’s bath and a coat of Renaissance Wax. The scent is absolute heaven!

Anybody else out there into this fetish?

Sadly had to sell my S&W revolver collection several months ago . Cleaned and oiled with Hoppes 9 , Rem Oil and polished with Ren. Wax. I do the same now with my Springfield 1911 .45 Cal and Ruger GP100

On wood, have you guys ever tried Howard's wax?

A guy on a Very different gun forum who owns dozens of rifles described Howards as having a bit of oil with the wax.

I'm reluctant to put Any oil on my wooden rifle furniture (even though Tung is reported Not to darken). Really don't want any darkening of the wood.

I like the smell of Hoppe's. It does what I want and does it well. Johnson's paste wax has always done such a good job I have never bothered to try any other wax. I bought a quart can of Ballitsol many years ago. It's smell is so awful I deposited it the trash cart.

I've always used Hoppe's #9 ever since I started shooting and owning guns. I'm also a Renaissance Wax fan and treat all my guns to it, including the rifles and shotguns. RenWax works great on blue, nickel or stainless. IMG_2507.jpg

I clean my guns with Hoppes and Kroil mixed at the ratio of 70% Hoppes #9 and 30% Kroil this mixture was given to me by a bench rest shooter. Just love the smell of it then wipe them down with a silicone impregnated cloth.

OMG, I have to get that bucket!
If you did… you literally would be the MAN! that would make the best display piece of any persons gun room!!!

SHOLD I? probably can write it off form my rental property!

Recommended by my gunsmith use your favorite cleaner with J&B non-embedding Paste. The paste gets into all the tight spots on a bore. It works nice. You don't use much and it cleans very well. In fact, clean you gun and then use J&B according to instructions and look at all the crud you missed. I got mine from Brownell's.

Yup I use #9, RW and Johnsons. I didn't know it was discontinued. I your talking about Howards Feed and Wax, I had a bottle but tossed it away. There was a big discussion about it on Rimfire Central and why its not good. It has mineral oil in it that can get into the wood and under finishes through chips and cracks causing problems. Lifting, discoloring and refinishing problems. You don,t want it in your wood.

Same here, have been a #9 user since late 60's, always have always will, love it. Just discovered Renaissance Wax few years ago, but I'm impressed! And I'm a big user of Ballistol for long time, don't care about breathing it, but I'd about use #9 for cologne!

I got a can of Ballistol, but I’m afraid to try it. I heard it smells like bad breath. Kidda like my hate/fear/love of the Durian Fruit
