I recently switched to a strong mount and have the spent primer tube running through my bench to drop the spent primers in a box. I love this setup because it normally is very clean and I dont accidentally kick over the spent primer bucket.
However, recently the brass spent primer tube has been coming loose. Unfortunately I cannot get enough leverage on it to tap it back in properly. I believe my only recourse will be to unbolt the press from the strong mount and flip it over and tap the brass tube back in properly.

Has anyone else had this issue? Looking for potential better fixes than just tapping it back in. I do not want to take the thing apart and have this happen again because it is a pain and causes delays. I thought about adding some epoxy to the tube when I tap it back in but dont want to get any epoxy inside the tube and potentially block spent primers.

I believe I had a kink in plastic tube that caused the primers to back up and forced the brass tube out of the press. Of course this tells me that the plastic tube is VERY tight on the brass tube....maybe too tight and that was the main problem. I would rather the plastic tube fall off versus the brass tube come out of the press.

Sorry if I am rambling.
Thanks.
Robert

Is it possible the brass tube got a little bent while moving the press around? It is quite exposed and I'd be more willing to believe it was binding somewhere than backed up primers. Can the tube be pulled off by pulling on the plastic? I long ago replaced the plastic tube with a longer one so don't recall how tight it was.

As for reattaching the tube, does the end of the tube clear the table when raised? Could block the hole and use the press to force it back into place.

3/8 vinyl tubing works well for me once shrunk a little with a lighter. Tight enough to stay on through operation but easily removed.

These normally stay in place till you remove them. All it is 1/4" brass tube. If your raised mount has the hose/tube connection where it is hanging it could be pulling it out. Make sure you have a large enough hole for the tubing to go through with hanging.

You could use a rod to tap the tubing in place. No adhesive is required or recommended. You may need to use a longer tube to get clearance from the bench.

Superglue or loctite should work fine. If you ever have to get it out again, Acetone will dissolve these products.

Mine came off a few months ago, I believe because I got a kink in the plastic tube and the primers backed up.
I checked with CS and they said it was a wedge fit in the base.
Took a few attempts, but I finally used a small hammer with a wood block to tap it back in. You can tell when it is all the way in--no movement at all.
Since then I have had kinks in the plastic tube a couple of times and got significant back ups but the brass tube did not move. Kind of a habit now to check that the plastic tube is clear before I start loading.
I let mine drop into a one gallon milk jug, so no narrow base to be unstable.

Thanks for the replies guys. Been busy and hadnt been back in a while.

I think I found the problem. The plastic tube I use is very tight and I think I need to replace it. Anyways I ran the plastic a couple inches up the tube so it wouldnt come off. However, on the down stroke the plastic is up against the press....so I believe it is pulling the brass tube back out.

I will cut off about an inch of the plastic tube off the brass tube and then tap the tube back into the press.
Thanks again.
Robert

dickTX, LOVE the milk jug idea for the spent primers! I will certainly do that! Better than my little box with a small hole cut in the top of it.

I use a small 4oz bottle attached to the drop hose. This way I can not knock the bucket over spilling them everywhere. It just rides up and down with the ram. When full I just put on a cap and put on a new bottle or empty the current one.

I also use a milk jug, but a 1 quart. I put a hole in the cap, pass the plastic tube through and secure with a nylon wire tie. When the ram moves up it lifts the bottle off the floor, but that's not been an issue.
