I wish someone would explain to me the idea behind the Hornady Zombie-Max ammunition. Has the company been taken over by 14-year-olds or is this some great joke that I am too old and grumpy to understand? I now see that they are offering 30-30 ammo loaded with what they refer to as Z-MAX bullets, along with 308 and various other calibers. The bullet appears to be a regular hard tip pointed soft point. I assume they would not be so foolish as to load such a bullet in 30-30. Possibly they ran off a bunch of FTX's with silver colored soft tips? Seems like a whole lot of trouble for foolishness, and unbecoming for a company engaged in what should be a serious business.

You and me both buddy!
I don't understand it either.

But if every 20 something video game addict buys just one box?
Or gets some for Xmas this year as a gag gift?

They will sell more ammo then they ever sold before.
So I'd say it is a brilliant marketing move.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are using a FTX bullet with a green soft tip in the 30-30 load.

If there is a market they will make it. Walk down the book aisle at your local walmart and you will see more zombie/vampire/werewolf adaptations of classics then you can shake a stick at. I will stick with my silvertips and golden sabers, but there are plenty of people out there who will buy anything associated with the current fads. I even know a couple of guys who take stuff like the ultimate zombie survival guide seriously, they have some impressive stores of 12ga ammo. At the last gun show I saw a box of this z-max and checked it out, I heard they had glow in the dark tips and might have got it just for that but I was misinformed so i bought some more silvertips.

Where did the hole stupid Zombie-Killer gun thing start?
Thats what I wanna know.

In the prepper community, zombies are a metaphore for the absolute worst case situation one could be in, if you are ready for zombies then you are ready for anything. I think this zombie ammo is stupid too, but it is an effieient marketing ploy, and now that I know they have it in 30-30, i might even give some to my cousin who just got his first 30-30 deer rifle. I even thought about buying some of the ammo myself for collectors value down the road.

I agree. It makes us all look like idiots. I mean how long will it be before the anti-guns use this against us? I mean zombies really, it's like the video game/movie community has got everyone going nuts for vampires, werewolves, and zombies. I mean they make a great horror flick but why are people so obsessed with them? If you have to tell someone its for zombies to get them to buy a gun, ammo, or a shooting tactics class; then they shouldn't even be shooting because they aren't interested enough in it to get the real picture. That's all I'm saying.

I am now the ripe old age of 33, my taste in firearms is more conservative than most of my friends, and each of them has purchased locally or recently ordered this ammunition. That does not bother me, to each their own, what does get my dander up is when these same friends can not understand why I am upset that Hornady has stopped producing their truly excellent 8mm Mauser.

I too have trouble understanding their logic, but it must be sound as I know of several guys that have purchased some. Honestly I seriously doubt it's bad, but I think I'll stick to the original V-Max and A-Max as I'd hate to have the burden of arguing a case where this ammunition was used in a defensive situation.

:)

Next year, will it will be real silver bullets for werewolves?
And wooden bullet ammo for Vampires?

That is, if those two fictional varmints make a comeback in the hearts & minds of the younger generation again.

Can't be much worst then some of the premium SD ammo is already!

Who knows?
Maybe extensive product testing on real Werewolves will prove a thin silver plating will kill them just as well as a solid silver bullet?

And sell just as well, with the right full color box label & marketing hysterics!

I think it is a really dumb concept.

But a BRILLIANT marketing move. And since I like Hornady products I am glad if they can make a profit. (especially off of something I don't buy; might keep the prices lower on regular ammo)

Not much different than uberti offering old-west single actions and cowboy style ammo. Different toys for a different generation. Whatever floats their boat

Really? No sense of humor at all? When did we all become a bunch of stuffy sticks in the mud?
What is an anti going to say? "See! Gun nuts really do believe in zombies! Ban all guns!"
They'd hate us if Hornady came out with Nerf safety bullets.
Some people find the humor in it, it's great marketing and if you don't like it, don't buy any. I will probably pick up a box for collector value.

Or to shoot zombies.

I wish they would make some in 50 BMG.:neener:

It's just a joke and Hornady is using to sell more ammo, Zombie's are in right now. Don't you watch the Walking Dead? Now that's some good TV.

I bought a box just for the box. Cost was $1.00 more than regular A-MAX which are the same as regular A-MAX except for the green tip I believe. Nice to have just in case.

Werewolves and vampires? Of course they will. The Twilight-Breaking Dawn flick has all of the younger ones choosing sides. Even my 30 year-old wife is reading the books!

Watch for silver and wood in Hornady's next product offering...

I got some for my kid for Christmas. The headstamp indicates it is 308 win match. I'll bet it is just green tipped a max, or for .30-30 just LeverEvolution in green.

All they did was change the color of the poly tips, and come out with a snazy box...and that You tube video...dude, that was like soo real... thats it. Its a great joke, if none of you personally know a "Zombies" person, then i could see how it miss the punch line. I DO know a person, couple actually, like that...swords, axes, wants a pistol for protection when the world ends...needs a different gun for zombies..."cause you know, their really fast, not like in the movies"...and the conversation then usually goes to "i seen this one video on youtube....and i know fake videos cause i watch a bunch......"

I like it, if i can find any here im going to buy some just to have.

If anyone is wondering about all the periods, thats REALLY how conversations with the couple i know go.

I bought a few boxes as christmass gifts i dont see the big deal. I dont think you will be successful trying to appease the anti's so why bother trying to?

I just see this among other things as a tool the anti's could use against us by claiming that we are all preparing for a zombie uprising or something. But I do love their vmax ammo and sst bullets.

It's funny! That's all! And great marketing, and I'm probably going to buy some just because it's funny.

Yes, guns is serious business. They are also fun. Dare I say that they should primarily be fun?

Some friends of mine and I get together a few times a year to shoot zombies. We print off zombie pictures on colored paper and do house clearing drills and so forth with the zombies as the bad-guy targets, assign a color to each shooter, and have fun!

That's really all this is. Relax, and go yell at some kids to get out of your yard. You can borrow my cane to shake at them, if you need it.

You mean not everyone is getting ready for the zombie Apocalypse by buying cases of this stuff?!?!?! More for me!

All joking aside, I think it looks cool sitting in the gun cabinet but other than that it is just another polymer tipped v-max :)

I bought a box of .223 for a buddy for Christmas. The box alone just plain looks cool, plus be both love zombies.

Well to each his own. I have fun with my guns too don't get me wrong! And I'm sorry if I came off as a snob, I'm really not, (those darn kids better get outta my yard though). Seriously though, I'm in my 20's and I'm all for fun with guns as long as it's safe. I just don't see why zombies. Unless the targets splatter everywhere, i have personally have no interest. Something realistic like predators or dangerous game would be more fun to me. If you have fun doing it then by all means keep it up! Another fun activity with guns...dangling water balloons at 300 yards and hitting them with a .22! Keep buying the ammo if you want to perhaps the extra income will lead Hornady to some more of the massive advancements in ammo they have been making.
