Horror--a quarterback with a gun!

lets see folks who actually know him and might have an actual clue as to his state of mind were concerned about a colleague/friend and asked the cops to help find him.
and predictably the usual tinfoil suspects wanna turn it into the cops abusing someone or the evil media conspiracy. gosh makes you wonder how some of the "gun nut" stereotypes get developed

"He was located at a friend's house, where we made contact with him.

Did they even think to call his other friends before they called the police? I still say it was over-reaction.

The question was asked earlier - what does the unloaded gun have to do with this situation? Nothing.

I'm sure they mentioned it due to the fact that his friends that reported him missing were concerned he might shoot himself with it. It is relevant to the story. Holy hell, is there absolutely nothing the media can say regarding guns that everyone here doesn't get up in arms about?

Turns out this was all a misunderstanding, and moot. I'm done posting about it.

Duke, you seem to be very angry about this whole thing. You a Tennessee fan?

Ruger, daddy is from Virginia and loves taking adverse positions without using caps.:D
I am a San Francisco '49's fan since age 9 and could not care less about the Titans.
It's the NFL's absolutely Stalinist, prohibitionist attitude about firearm's that makes me so very angry and disgusted.Grown men,the vast majority ,even with the publicized thugs, are honest citizens. They're deprived by their teams in many cases of utilizing their 2nd A rights, because of the threat of fine or expulsion.
Now do you see where I am coming from?

Oh, for Pete's sake! I know you have a chip on your shoulder about people criticizing police officers, but you really should pay attention to the particular thread on which you posting. Not only is this thread is not a criticism of police officers, no one has remotely implied that "cops [were] abusing someone" in this instance.

If you want to complain about "police bashing," at least choose a thread in which the cops were actually criticized, whether correctly or not.

or the evil media conspiracy.

Again--read more carefully. No one has said anything about a conspiracy or a general statement about "the evil media." If you disagree with what someone has actually written, please tell us why rather than reacting to something that has not been written.

In addition, the phrase "the usual tinfoil suspects" is an obvious violation of the rules of courtesy to which you agreed when you signed up for this forum. If you want to disagree with an argument, do so. Do not launch ad hominem attacks against people (even imaginary ones!). Do not misrepresent what others have said. These tactics don't help your argument and they are not appropriate to The High Road.

Except that his friends (as the story actually demonstrates) seem obviously to have been over-reacting and he wasn't suicidal.

It is relevant to the story.

No, because this would not have been a story had his friends not over-reacted. If there is indeed a newsworthy story, it is that his friends were mistaken. But writing that story would not have allow for the sly dropping of the tidbit about the [evil] handgun in the glovebox, something that is completely irrelevant to anything if Young is, as is apparent, not suicidal. That is the point. This is a manufactured story that only works by insinuating that the mere presence of a handgun is insidiously evil, even if unloaded.

Holy hell, is there absolutely nothing the media can say regarding guns that everyone here doesn't get up in arms about?

Sure, but this is not one of them. Nice pun, though! ;)

Gun or no gun, Vince is a whining crybaby that needs to go the way of Pacman Jones....

And for what it's worth, Steve Mcnair skated on not only a DUI charge but a gun charge as well, here a few years back... so Vince's troubles are nothing more than a bit of media hype due to the beginning of the football season.

J.C.

P.S. I'll be shocked if there's anything seriously wrong with V.Y.'s knee.

Aaron also said Young had an unloaded handgun in the glovebox of his car. Tennessee law permits unloaded firearms in vehicles as long as no ammunition is present.

Its a good thing you can have a gun without ammunition.

This makes about as much sense as going golfing without any golfballs.

Heh, heh! I hadn't heard that one before, but I agree.

I would much rather TN's law read like FL's which allows anyone to carry a loaded handgun in the glovebox or other compartment. In the meantime, however, TN is a shall-issue state and a handgun carry permit allows for the carry of loaded handguns in a vehicle as well as on one's person. Additionally, TN recognizes any CCW issued by any other state. Not a perfect solution, for sure, but at least a step in the right direction.
